Are the names being used, that of the companies which were awarded the franchises last time they where awarded? So where as a company called HTV west won the license it now operates as ITV West?

Don't know for certain, but would assume so, as the Oxford transmitter is scheduled to change with "Central".

There could well be a few more anomalies like that if the news region changes go ahead.

The Westcountry bit of "Huge Pointy Bit in the Bottom Left Hand Corner" region going before West does; and The Border bit of "Great Big Chunk at the Top of England, but Spilling Over into Scotland" region going long before Tyne-Tees.

Is there even a Central version?

Everytime I see the advert it's "to find out this go to itv.com/switchover..." so is this because of Thames Valley or is it that i've just missed it?

No you've just missed it, it features Digit Al going in a Van around the UK and going past a few Transmitters and the voice over announcing when your Region is switching over to Digital.

I saw it on Channel 4 yesterday, but I had the Volume on low, but I think that was a generic version with a plug for the website.

Presumably then the station would need to change its name to "Tyne Tees, Ouse, Wear, Tweed, Nith, Eden and Caldew Television."

Is it ITV London, in London land or LWT, Carlton

Not 100% sure, because it was a few days since I saw it, but I think it was neither, and just said "London will switch to digital in 2012".

It seems strange that on the adverts, they refer to "HTV", yet on the digital uk website, there is no mention of HTV, they just refer to "West" and "Wales":

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/en/when.html

It also seems strange that they are referring to UTV as "Ulster", yet they are using "STV North" and "STV Central"

There's also a bit of inconsistency on the website, for example with the London region. On most pages, it is referred to as "London", but on the following page, it is referred to as "Carlton / LWT":

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/en/when/faq.html#i-cant-currently-get-freeview

Digital UK also seem to be completely ignoring the Channel TV region, as there's no mention of it on their website.

There is the old (probably apocraphal) story of the original name they rejected - ' T yne W ear a nd T ees'

even thought a date hasn't been set for the terrestrial analogue to digital switch over in the channel tv area, it must be confusing for islanders who hear all about the switch over on national tv.

It has been set at 2013.
