Does anyone remember Going For Gold with Henry Kelly?

Yes, though my memory of it was after Neighbours at around 14:10, rather than the 12:35 shown above.

Suppose it moved about a bit, like lots of things.

Have you seen Malcy's link to this site, over in Media Websites?

I'm intending to upload some of my ancient stuff to there when time allows.

Yes, I remember it being after Neighbours too, Nick. It must have moved about a bit.

Isn't it refreshing to see a varied schedule? Compare that to a current BBC1 schedule, and all you'll find are DIY shows and antiques programmes!

Oh yes! Going for Gold! with skinny Henry Kelly. I used to admire the glittery pink and blue neon set! And the great 'heat is on and the time is right' theme. It used to follow Knots Landing/Dallas I think. Rainbow, Rod Jane and Freddy or Allsorts used to be on 12.15 on ITV! Then later in the afternoon we'd have Bazaar(BBC1) and TV Weekly(TVS) with Anne Diamond Smile

It's very interesting how much the schedule has changed in 8 years, especially on ITV, seemed to be a bit more choice in Prime Time, Kids and Night Time, though Daytime during the afternoon has improved, as I wasn't keen on Dr Quinn. I also have the variations for Border, Central and HTV from that day, as it's taken from a TV and Satellite Week.

Yes, I remember that daytime soaps like Home and Away and the Emmerdale/Corrie repeats went out at different times in different regions, even though they were showing the same episode. Even those who scheduled them at the same time weren't necessarily taking the same source feed, as I noticed when flicking between channels.

That schedule is from just before the June 1997 revamp of Breakfast News. The one above would still have been the Virtual Era look - when they changed everything in 1997, did they still have Business Breakfast for a while, or was it completely axed then? It's strange to think that BBC1 used to show a full hour of business news as part of the breakfast time programming, yet today's Breakfast features only a couple of minutes every half hour.

The oldest tv guide I have is TV Choice week commencing 8th April 2000, so nearly 5 years old. The cover is Corrie with Rebecca and Martin.

An example of the schedule for Monday 10th April 2000

HTV Wales

9.25am The Jerry Springer Show
10.00am Loose Women
10.30am This Morning
12.30 Lunchtime News
12.55 HTV News
1.05 Shortland Street
1.35 Home and Away
2.05 Trisha
3.05 News; Regional News
3.20 CITV: Maisy, The Singing Kettle, Little Grey Rabbit, Pokemon, Its a Mystery, Sabrina the teenage witch
5.05 Home and Away
5.30 Moneyspinners
6.00 HTV News
6.30 Evening News
7.00 Wish you were Here
7.30 Coronation Street
8.00 Airline
8.30 Carol Vorderman's Better Homes
9.00 Monsignor Renard
10.30 Savage Planet
11.00 Nightly News
11.20 HTV News
11.30 Art Talks

Regional Variations

HTV West

5.30pm Look Back 2000
11.30pm Sportsweek

Central

12.55pm Central News
1.05pm Home and Away
1.35pm High Road
5.30pm Shortland Street
6.00pm Central News
11.20pm Central News

1.05pm Shortland Street
1.30pm Three Minutes
5.30p Monkey Business

Granada

12.55pm Granada News

5.30pm-6.30pm Regional News
11.20pm Granada News
11.30pm Timecop

So a few regional variation but not nearly as much as the mid 1990s. And look how different the schedule is even 5 years ago, no Emmerdale, no double episode of Corrie.

Business Breakfast continyed for at least a year or two after the revamp of Breakfast News, but IIRC it ended by 1999.

I've got the magazine back out, and the BBC Variations prove interesting for that day....

BBC1 Wales:

As England except
1.15am-1.20am News; Weather

BBC1 Scotland
As England except
2.55pm An t-Oilamh Seilasdar
3.10pm-3.30pm Sam Smalaidh

The listings for the other channels prove interesting too, if anyone wants to see the Channel 4, Channel 5 ones for that day, just say so.

Thanks for posting those schedules, guys. It was great to see some of the programmes I used to love. Does anyone remember Going For Gold with Henry Kelly? I used to love that programme! For anyone who doesn't remember, it was a gameshow where Europeans competed against each other. That theme tune was so catchy!

Oh yes I remember it well - when it first started (about 1987?) I often went home for lunch and would watch it then. My main memory of it is Kelly's questioning technique which often began, "what am I?". We used to think of plenty of "amusing" answers to that one Laughing
