Katy Haswell used to be the presenter of ITN WORLD NEWS before Dhaljit Dhaliwal took over, and before that she presnted some weekend bulletins. She was also the late presenter of London Tonight. She is rather fierce and of coruse has distinguishing features. The Leyla cheek bone syndrome.
Quite a confident start by Ms Haswell once she got warmed up. I havn't seen her anchoring the news since she was with Westcountry a long time ago.
This seems to be a move up for her from working on programmes such as Pulling Power.
I think she brings a bit of glamour back to ITVNC which has been missing since the absence of presenters Layla Daybelge and Heather McCarthy.

Katy is fab, she should ber made permanent, as she is much better than some of the people they put on there. There were a few technical faults though for her, as they came back from the break early and then she introduced a report and the wrong one came one, and then she introduced another report that didn't appear, but she dealt with it very calmly.

Yes where or what has happened to Heather?
Re. Heather Mac.
Heather's been on maternity leave since the end of May.
If she does return to the ITVNC, it will be c. Jan/Feb 2004
The supermarket wars have claimed their first media victim. ITV News presenter Nicholas Owen got his knickers in an excruciating twist as the story of Morrison's takeover of Safeway made the lunchtime bulletin. The northern minnow beat supermarket giants Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco to land the deal, which seems to have confused the normally reliable Owen. "Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda were blocked on competition grounds," he announced. "So the Big Three supermarkets look set to become the Big Four. Er, shouldn't that be the other way round - the Big Four becoming the Big Three?". But as Romilly Weekes delivered her in-the-aisle report, Owen's earpiece started buzzing hotly. When he returned to camera, Owen told viewers rather shame-facedly "I'm sorry if I misled you, I should have said the Big Three supermarkets look set to become the Big Four. That is the case." Well, not quite the case - listen carefully now, Nick: we started with a Big Four and end up with a Big Four, only now one of the new Big Four is now Morrison's (new owners of Safeway). A Big Four then, a Big Four now. Got it?
What exactly were you all watching? Katy Haswell was truly DREADFUL. She didn't read any of the headlines properly, she was all over the place reading. She was confused over what she was meant to be doing. She didn't know the name of her guest. And she looked as though she'd been dragged through a hedge backwards. And that was just in one hour. And her reading style... She made the death of Robert Palmer sound like a good news and-finally report.
Shocking. It's not all about pretty eyes you know.

Oh don't be silly! Yes there were a few technical hitches, but they were not really her fault. It was her first ever appearance on the channel so she was bound to cock up the headlines. Even Angela Rippon did that on her first appearance on there. When she was reading, she was excellent - easy to watch and had an air of authority about her. It certainly wasn't a perfect couple of hours with her, but she coped well and next time she will be even fabber.
"She was bound to cock up the headlines....."
What the hell is this? College TV? No, this was an second rate presenter who was overwhelmed by what was expected of her. Yes, people can fluff their lines, mistakes happen. But this was consistantly shocking and added nothing to the reputation of ITN. If you turned on to ITV News Channel when she was on for the first time, you would never watch again.. Do you think it would be acceptable for a new presenter to cock up the headlines on the BBC?... to read the right link, though you think it was the wrong link, apologise, fiddle about with the autocue and your earpiece and then go back to the link that you'd abandoned. At relatively peak time? Perhaps she'd do better reading breakfast bulletins at Anglia.
Perhaps.
