I notice that the News Channel have started using the same EPG information on DTT as on Sky. As opposed to just listing the date for 15 hours per day it now lists the name of the person presenting.
On the Lunchtime News, Nicholas Owen showed us a report where he actually went out and about earlier in the morning to the High Court, to give us his own take on the proceedings
The ITV News Channel have handled it excellently, whilst Sky & BBC were not covering it at all.
They had cameras panning London from LNN & ITN, plus they had Dan Rivers, who was on his way home from the anchoring the channels coverage of the Hutton Inquiry, live on the phone from the underground. They also has Salma Siraj, the news channel reporter, The British Transport Police, various commuters and the Electricity people on the phone.
Chris Rogers did an excellent job with all the information he was receiving, he stayed calm and informative throughout, though he was being bombarded with info and camera pictures.

THANK YOU i thought i was up against the BBC and SKY brigade for a second there!
Now after the event the anti-ITV brigade are saying that it was a non-story (because bbc and sky didnt cover it as much) but the point is HOW did the bbc and sky know HOW this story was to turn out? There are still a lot of knock on effects that this black out could have - traffic, airports, underground, hospitals etc!
I think with time, ITVNC could replace Sky as highest rated channel. However at the moment i think ITV is wearing odd socks in terms of news at the moment especially appearence and the channels direction i.e. is it a rolling news channel? The sooner the revamp the better.
I also think ITV News is at its best when it gets out of the studio. Tonight was great with Mark Austin live at the High Court (shame about the poor quality camera and lighting). I think they should do this more often but perhaps not to present live from the MET Office.
I think with time, ITVNC could replace Sky as highest rated channel.
Gobstopper, is that your name? How apt.
Your gob has stopped and you're talking out of your arse to compensate.
ITV NC will never replace Sky at the highest rated, or even News 24 as the second highest, without some decent investment.
It still has a desperate agenda - "medical breakthroughs" and "adopted children" fills the airwaves. Its presenters in the most part are useless - I thought Chris Rogers was actually increadibly irritating, with his flashy cheeky-chappy grin and pointless remarks.
They were off air when it happened because they are so cheap they have to take the Evening News, so Sky stole the lead (Beeb in sport, if I recall). They DID break away from it for a while, as did the BBC and Sky. At times the Beeb were the only ones covering it, at times Sky, at times ITV.
All that ITV really had over the others was their better camera vantage point, which bizarrely just showed us the exact opposite of what they were reporting - that the lights and power was infact on. Only the Beeb and Sky had pictures of the tube stations themselves.
But it doesn't matter, because when all's said and done - it was pretty uneventful.

HMMM the backbone of your 'argument' is purely let down by stating that it was pretty uneventful - so say it wasnt uneventful and something BIG did happen at an airport or hospital - im sure you would be turning this around to a different type of 'argument' then!
Why would something "BIG" happen at an airport or a hospital?
> Heathrow wasn't reporting power failures.
> Gatwich wasn't reporting power failures
> The Stock Exchange, which had already finished trading, said "actually, we're fine"
> Hospitals ALWAYS have backup generators.
It concerned - in the grand scheme of things - a pretty tiny area of the country. The interviews people were giving (at least on Sky) consisted of "Well, no big deal, going for a drink" or "No, wasn't much panic, just sort of made a joke out of it, nah, nothing much".
I think all of the networks did broadly similar jobs. The Beeb were lucky with their traffic cams, ITV luckier with their central location.
I think your attempts to turn Chris Rogers into the next Walter Chronkite based on tonight's performance are somewhat flawed, personally.

LOL - i feel really good because I dont recognize the name of that person that you name in your post (not the chris guy)
All I am trying to say is that considering the amount of negative threads and posts the ITV News Channel gets on here - they can actually do something right and excel in areas that BBC and SKy (on this occasion) fails to adequately cover!
Of course this varies all the time with SKY covering other stories more indepth etc etc and they all ahve their own fair share of stories.
BUT ITVNC doesnt have the huge resources and financial backing that SKY and BBC have and so its quite a coup when the underdog takes first place!
