A problem with some of these line ups is that you are using practically the entire presenting team in one day!

In relation to GMTV, they'd do better just simulcasting the GMTV News Hour on the ITV News Channel. Actual making a proper ITV NC breakfast show and actually advertising it may put them in a bit of a funny position, what with GMTV owning the slot. Maybe an ITV NC Breakfast show could start at 9.25am!

I agree that with this lineup there would be a shortage of staff. It is however hard to variate the presenters throughout the day as ITVNC are basing most of their appeal on their presenters and so variation is needed. Re: Breakfast i don't see why their is silly regulations concerning GMTV and ITV. Why aren't ITVNC allowed to broadcast on freeview between 6:00 and 9:25? And why is ITVNC allowed to broadcast between 7:00 and 9:30 on Sky only? And finally why does ITVNC not broadcast live between 6:00 and 7:00. I personally hate GMTV Newshour. First of all some of the items in the news hour are on again in Today. Also it is one step away from the contents of the Daily Star read out by two presenters. If they say they are giving us news why don't they do that. By restricting the broadcast hours of ITVNC they are seriously damaging it. How can they provide a comprehensive service when they are not allowed to broadcast between 6:00 and 9:25 because GMTV is on?

Also you've used Carol Barnes, Jemma Woodman and Lloyd Bracey - Lloyd remember is there mainly to train people and can't really be called a main presenter, Carol is there for emergencies and Jemma for serious emergencies.

You've basically got to put together your presenting staff:
Full Time:
Andrew Harvey
Lauren Taylor (occ reporting)
Leyla Daybelge (I presume)
Heather McCarthey (if she comes back)
Owen Thomas
Chris Rogers
Sasha Herriman
Felicity Barr
Steve Scott
Rachel McTavish

Not full time:
Judy Aslett
Carol Barnes
Lloyd Bracey

Then you can add in perhaps people like John Draper, Joyce Ohajah, James Mates etc who present occasionally.
As far as timing goes, try and limit it to 6 from start to finish and about 4 hours actually presenting
Ignore Trevor McDonald
Put it together

I admit that my suggestion was rather stupid. Perhaps if two presenters is the best way to go then maybe they could go down the sky news route with a Sky News Today style programme presented by say Leyla and Andrew or Steve and Rachel. So my revised suggestion is as follows:
5:30-Morning News with Joyce or whoever is on overnights
6:00-Breakfast show with Felicity and Owen
10:00 or 9:30 if 4 hours is still long-ITV News Daily Edition (suggestions for names are more than welcome) with Leyla and Andrew or Steve and Rachel
12:00-Sport/Business/Entertainment/Special Report
12:30-Lunchtime News
1:00-Lunctime News presenter
2:00-5:00-Chris Rogers and Lauren Taylor or Heather McCarthy and Lloyd Bracey
5:00-Mary or Katie or Mark
6:00-Sport/Business/Entertainment/Special report
6:30-Evening News
7:00-Evening News Extra with comments and analysis plus guests etc
8:00-ITV News Network with John Suchet
8:30-John Suchet
9:00-
9:30-Sport/Business/Entertainment/Special Report
10:00-News at Ten or Overnight
10:30-New Documentary of some sort any suggestions? Perhaps a program looking at reaction to the days news.
11:00-Overnight with Joyce or Jemma or a suggestion of my own get So Rahman from Granada. Anyone who doesn't know him, he is a little like Owen and could replace him on overnights. Also show NBC Nighty news at 12:30
I hope this works although i acknowledge any problems now. There does appear to be a shortage of presenters ig they go with the double barreled thing. Perhaps the presenters could overlap between programmes and instead of being onscreen together all the time they could share responsibilities.

I think the News Channel could do with getting a couple more anchors, or using ITV1 reporters as permanent NC anchors (like they've done with Felicity)

6am: ITV Morning News with Felicity & Owen
9.30am: ITV News Daily with Carol Barnes & Nicholas Owen
12pm: Business Programme
12.30pm: ITV Lunchtime News
1pm: Andrew Harvey & Leyla Daybelge
5pm: ITV Early Evening News with Chris Rogers & Rachel McTavish
8.30pm: Shulie Ghosh & ?????
12am: ITV News Night Time with Jemma Woodman

including: 12.30 & 5am: NBC Nightly News
3am: Sports & Markets
5.30am: ITV Early Morning News with Jemma

This could work Monday-Friday (Though there would be a few changes on Friday like no Nicholas Owen or Felicity Barr)

Then due to more focus on sport at weekends it could use the single anchoring system. Including:
Sasha Herriman
Steve Scott
Lloyd Bracey
Heather McCarthy
Judy Aslett

Weekdays The 12pm programme could be with Caroline Kerr.
Most of the day there would be a separate sports anchor (Alex Thomas, Tim Ewart, Nick Bashford)

There could also be a few Tonight repeats and other special news programmes.

I don't like that, I think that ITV should get the channel showing 24/7 on all networks, and excluding the breakfast time, double anchors are a bit pointless really, wasting them. Shiulie Ghosh should stick to reporting and people like Carol Barnes, Jemma Woodman and Nicholas Owen just won't be presenting 4/5 days a week on the ITV News Channel.

It could be possible though if they were to make Jemma Woodman a permanent 4/5 days per week anchors. I'm sure if they become permanent Carol Barnes could do four days a week and Nicholas should be able to do three, with Lloyd Bracey covering on the other day.
I just think there needs to be a more permanent schedule, with one/two anchors per 3/4 hour shift. That way people can immediately identify who is anchoring. For example "It's 5 O' Clock Chris Rogers should be on".
As opposed to having an anchor come on to do an hour, then go, then come back, then throw in a couple of reporters (Lauren, Mark, Adrian, Nina).

A couple more specialist programmes might be nice, like at 7pm a programme looking at the days top story, including viewer's opinions, interviews and small debates.
Also there could be changes to their 'Football Extra' programme, perhaps basing it in a studio with the presenters in front of the camera as opposed to just voicing over with some graphics.
I'm sure Caroline Kerr could anchor the odd business programme.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but Andrea Catherwood is three months pregnant Baby Joy for Andrea

Its weird: Andrea, Mary, Leyla and Shulie (I think?) all present ITV News and have all fell pregnant recently.

It's obviously that studio chair. As for Mary, she seems to be on extended maternity leave I think, along with Leyla.

It's a shame, Leyla was just starting to become established on ITV1 bulletins when she went off on leave. Let's hope she makes a return soon.
