On the News Channel they did another 'round the region's' at 1pm with Lauren Taylor
Yes and did you see that giraffe eating all that food and dribbling all over the presenter! Very funny. Also it sounded as if there was some crosstalk with the link to scotland and was hastily ended.
Not sure why Trevor McDonald appears in that ITVNC "Breaking News for Britain" trailer. It's not as if he's ever presented a bulletin on the channel other than an ITV1 simulcast. He seems to only be there as a token gesture really.
Why does everyone seem to have it in for Trevor on this forum. How do you know whether or not he has been asked to present on the ITVNC? Considering you don't even know the man, it's a bit rich to be calling him a freeloader because he presents two or three times a week - does anybody curse Eamonn Holmes for doing the same thing? He is in the twilight of his career, and has worked damned harder than most to get where he is (read his autobiography!). What, should he work like a dog on the news channel to be seen a 'proper newscaster' (just like Sian Jones and Karen Roberts??!!). He is not the most popular and recognised newsreader in Britain for no reason.

Erm, excuse me, don't be putting words into my mouth. I didn't say those things, if my comments implied that to you then that is your problem. I am merely pointing out that he doesn't present on the ITVNC, so for him to be saying that "We bring you the Breaking News as soon as it happens", seems a little odd, that's all.
Go outside release your collar and loosen your underpants, the heat is clearly affecting you.
I don't mind Trevor actually - he is a very experienced newscaster and it is excellent that he is still around on the TV today. His role is no different to someone like Dan Rather on CBS on the US. So he doesn't present everyday? Does it really matter?
Anyway, maybe one too many trips on a London bus today (are they too hot!? I think so...) has affected our friend here.

Isn't Dan Rather the executive producer of the Evening News as well as the presenter? I don't think Trevor actually plays any editorial role in the News at Ten, although I may be wrong...

Er, go and 'loosen your underpants' mate! I wasn't directing my post squarely at you! I don't really have a problem, it would be good if some forum members didn't believe that staring at TV screens makes them experts

He does do Tonight With Trevor McDonald as well (though Martin Bashir often does that now) and one offs like the NTA. He's also getting on in years - he's been around since 1962.
Well I think Trevor is awful. He rarely does News at Ten or Tonight anymore. He is so wooden and old that his voice is pitiful. he seems in a rush to get off the air and has to grasp for a cup of water as soon as he's finished the script. I'd get rid of him and put John Suchet in charge. Trevor was good years ago, but not at his age today.
Its probably fair to say this is Trevor's last contract with ITN/ITV, which I think expires in 2004 or 2005. I'd be surprised if he stayed on for another few years. If ITV do decide to axe News at When and go with an ITV Nightly News at 10.30 sometime in 2004 I'd be surprised if Sir Trev decided to present it, and would be gobsmacked, if after all this time he moved over to the BBC or Sky, which (especially the BBC have firmly settled their news presenters for the next 10 years at least). I'm not sure if I buy this about John Suchet taking over cos even though he's bloody good, he aint all that much younger than Trevor. Mind you, all this stuff is perhaps a little unfair, Trevor did work VERY hard to get to his top job, an dont forget with him as main anchor in the 90s News at Ten was probably the best news programme on British TV. Seems like ages ago now though.
