Now that the war coverage has died down substantially, and some resources at ITN possibly freed up, is there any information on the rumoured new look for ITV News, and whether it will happen as said on here at easter?

The ITV News Channel will cease its 24 hour covergae as of this Sunday and will revert back to pre-recorded bulletins between 0100 and 0530.

I just saw an excellent "Front Line Phone-in" with Trevor McDonald on the ITVNC. He looks like he's on his holidays!

Yes complete with denim shirt and NO autocue!

Just how could he cope?

Who cares to wager a few $ or £ that "News at Nine" becomes a lasting feature?

This "swap your news times" thing between the BBC and ITV seems to be ironic enough to ultimately come true.

It's an interesting point, although without doubt the appetite for news has been very high over recent weeks, and it's questionable whether that would be sustained when the war is over.

ITV's "experiment" has demonstrated that there is a desire for a mainstream news bulletin at 9pm. I think it is a disservice to have both the BBC and ITV bulletins go head to head at 10pm. It would be nice to see the ITV News settle into the 9 O'Clock slot, however as this is seen as the main prime-time battlefield I fear that it might not be commercially viable for the network and too risky.

Also it would be interesting to know how the ratings for the programmes at 9pm have been affected by being pushed back between 20 and 50 minutes later than billed in some listings

Also on a boring news day would people watch News at Nine?

ITV are dropping the News at Nine tonight. They just said that Lucky Jim will be on at 9.05pm, after the ITV News Headlines.

I think ITV's experiment shows that the BBC should reinstate the 9pm News. ITV are under no obligation to move from their "10pm" slot, and with the success of most ITV dramas at 9pm, I see no reason to move them.

The weekend schedule is now on the website - Carol Barnes and Alastair Stewart are both on over the weekend

ROFL, yes i can see it now - greg on the phone to lorraine "listen guys, we're going to have to move the news back to 9.00 - itv have proved there is a demand for it, but aren’t quite sure if it is commercially viable - it doesn’t matter if we fall flat on our arses".

don’t be so foolish - your itv-loving knows no bounds. how can itv's experiment demonstrate a demand for the 9oclock news on bbc one - but not demonstrate a demand for a 9oclock news on itv? these "itv dramas" are very much in the same ilk as the "bbc dramas" - your preference for one over the other means nothing.

They arn't technically dropping it then, as there still will be news at nine!

The reason is that Lucky Jim is billed for 8.30pm and is 2 hours long, delaying it to be 50 mins later than billed would mean it would almost be 11.30pm before it finishes!

Well, the BBC used ITV's News at Ten as proof that the BBC should move from 9 to 10.

well the 9 > 10 was a move the bbc were arguing for - they are not arguing for a move from 10 > 9. why does itv's experiment not suggest that they should move THEIR news from 10 > 9?
