I have just watched the ITV News Channel from 7pm tonight and was EXTREMELY impressed with the coverage!
The whole 30 minutes was live from various places in the Gulf and was live interview after live interview in a two-way box with a continuous live picture of Baghdad on the left box.
All live interviews took place in the right box and featured Julian Mannion filmed with a night vision camera as he was too close to troops etc to use lighting!
Andrew Harvey chaired this half hour and was an extremely watchable 30 mins of television - shame Corrie is 'over on one' now!

Are the residents of North Cumbria/South West Scotland aware that 300,000 troops are about to invade?

Not yet, thought there are reports of advances into the border region, and Iraqi surrenders - on Sky News.

I must say ITV News have excelled themselves with this war coverage (although before I start, I would like to point out that I haven't seen anything to compare it against).
News at Ten last night was very good, with live links into reports from Kuwait and Washington. The reports themselves appear to be very detailed and extensive. The linking from the OBs to the locations seem to work well, with very few mistakes. The frequent slots on the ITVNC with Martin Geissler are also good.
News at Nine seems like a good idea, although it would be nice to see the established presenters on the News Channel on the main ITV1 bulletins. There's nothing particularly wrong with Kaitie Derham, but I think that viewers would (or at least I would) prefer the more established presenters, Carol Barnes just seems more authoritative.
So, I'm looking forward to News at Nine tonight, I just hope ITV keep up this level of journalistic authority.

Yes lets hope they will get the viewers in!
Im not sure if im correct in saying this but the ad break in news at ten last night (and around the news) was very long. usually the break in the news at ten doesnt seem to last more than a minute but now war is looming it appears as if companies want to advertise here now!
BUT
when war breaks out will the commercial stations drop the ad breaks - just like Sept 11th?

Has the desk been moved or is it really there under the image?
