Yes, I couldn't quite make out what he said, but it sounded very odd, poor Leyla. Sad

Actually the start of the Dimbleby programme didn't go well at all, firstly no sound during the opening titles, then we were introduced to the guests via the satellite link-up, one of which was drinking from a flask.

Don't forget the 30 minute long bulletin at 6.30pm today on ITV1, I wonder whether it will be double headed??

Oh dear, has someone spilt coffee in the server's at ITV News or something, how many cockups are they stacking up this weekend!

No opening titles and for some reason the short bulletin 'ITV Weekend News' slide right at the beginning!

ITV News was brililliant on Sunday - it handled the live News conference better than the BBC.

The titles were cocked up, but still looked reasonabley acceptable, beginning with a Weekend News still, followed by the bongs, and then a zoom in on the studio, with Mary Nightingale in the studio and Mark Austin in Kuwait.

Also, for the first time on the Weekend News, the IRAQ CRISIS logo worked quite well on the big screen. It was mainly a still image, but looked better than the blue version and the inset window.

I suppose Mark and possibley Andrea will host live bulletins from Kuwait (although this morning the UK ordered Brits out of the country).

Apart from 'people who need to be there' - which includes journalists apparently!

I think the impending conflict could really launch Mark Austin as a presenter. He appears so much more comfortable on location in a reporting/presenting role than in the studio and when he was ITV's senior reporter he produced some very good reports.

Will he also be live from Kuwait for News at Ten?

ITV's coverage of it was good, but the BBC was better on the day. It would have been better if the ITV NC came from the CSO set, seperately, so that the press conference could have been broadcasted without interruption.

BBC News 24, simulcasting on BBC Two, showed the press conference in its entirety, and made good use of about 6 or 7 correspondents positioned around the world, with good reaction and anaylsis, and good linking from the studio from Huw Edwards and Jane Hill.

Saying that, the press conference was most likely also used as a test run for BBC News 24 for the proper thing, and when that comes I expect ITV News to do well as well.

Also, MediaGuardian are reporting that GMTV will use ITV News correspondents and reports, and (if I've read it correctly) the ITV NC will be allowed to broadcast on FreeView during the 6.00-9.25 GMTV franchise period.
