The opening titles froze right at the start.

Owen Thomas laughed it all off and adlibed his way to the first headline

Has anyone else noticed - all the major news networks have moved thier "senior" presenters out to Iraq.

Any ideas why!

I don't think it's so much the senior presenters, but the ones who are also experienced foreign/war correspondents - although with some channels there's quite a bit of overlap between the two! Makes sense, really. For example, Mark Austin's talents would be wasted if he was sitting behind a desk in London when he could be out and about bringing journalistic skill and immediacy to the Evening News.

I very much doubt we'll see Huw Edwards presenting live from Iraq, for example, as he's an ex-political reporter rather than a foreign correspondent.

I agree that it's a bit strange that she went straight to the ITV1 news, though! Perhaps ITV have signed her as a more 'heavyweight' female presenter to rival Fiona Bruce. But hadn't heard anything about that.

Presumably there's some connection with the fact that David Mannion was the editor of Tonight with Trevor McDonald before he returned to take over at ITV News.

Lol, yet again at Midnight the breakfiller froze half/half with the very start of the opening titles

After staying frozen for a while, the breakfiller continued will into 00.01 before they finally got the opening titles to work!

I bet it's going to be a long night for Owen Thomas!

They probably had to get it right then, or else they would have ended up repeating the same cockup all night

dont be daft - they will just show a pre recording from 1991 just before gulf war one.

Blimey - enough cock-ups tonight then! I wonder if they're having problems with new equipment, or if it's just a machine on the blink?

And we have just had the hand to break cockup again!! With so many mistakes you wouldn't have expected them to repeat it!

I see that the Champions' League football has been booted off the News Channel and onto Granada Plus so that it doesn't get in the way of the war coverage
