Hmm. Not too sure about that - would look very odd. If they were putting a new set into the current ITV News studio then presumably everything would come from the cso studio. I guess they'd either do NO in-studio prep for the ITV1 bulletins, or set up another cso curtain somewhere else for either the ITV NC or ITV1 news to decamp to.
But I'm presuming that Phil's point is that the new studio could be somewhere else (old ITN NC studio?). In which case there the current ITV NC and ITV1 bulletins would be unaffected, unless they do indeed use separate cameras, and one set have been moved.
I'm checking if they've been doing something with the old ITN NC studio right now. I'll get back to you...
UPDATE: Doesn't look like anything's been going on in that studio. Nothing obvious, anyway.
I should think it'll be like this for the forseeable future - like I said before, Mark had always planned to go out to the gulf in the event of war.
Out of interest, how did this affect the programme? Was it a big improvement?
Well they did seem to go on about Iraq for a bit too long, It looked odd with both presenters around the screen and it seemed a bit unrehearsed. A few tweeks and it could work very well!
The lack of simulcasts may be part of the new way the ITV News Channel will work during the war, and nothing to do with a relaunch!!
This would certainly make a lot of sense, and I don't really think they could carry on with things the way they are now. I remember numerous occasions when an important press conference/statement/event was due shortly before a simulcast, and the News Channel was showing pictures of an abandoned podium up to the very last minute, before cutting away to the simulcast. By the time they came back, the event had of course been and gone, and hadn't been covered live by the ITV1 bulletin.
If they're out to prove themselves and make this 'their' war, which it looks very much like they are, then they can't be having any of that!
The new look ISNT being unveiled on Monday. The old set is still up and there are no plans to make any changes until we have at least got some stability. At the moment, the newsroom is far too preoccupied with the huge operation in the middle east and a new look isnt top of the list. Whilst it is finalised, it wont be launched on Monday or in the next couple of weeks now.
Mary Nightingale WILL be back from maternity leave at the weekend.
News Channel will be going live 24 hours a day in the next few days.
It will NOT be relocating in the old NC studio. That is now occupied by Channel Five and it is also housing a special 'newswall' - ITV's version of Sky's innovative product - which will launch during the conflict.. primarily with Lauren Taylor at the helm
Fiona Foster on the Weekend News, right now, yes. When the headlines came, I actually thought the presenter was Heather McCarthy or Rachel McTavish (Both Mc'S!)
Notice also how the 'ITN Voice over bloke' must have recorded new announcements, such as this one and also the "Mark Austin in Kuwait" one from earlier in the week
I hope when the relaunch happens later in the year, they keep the voice over intros. Its a pitty they don't have them on the channel
