I just didn't watch the itv news at all today. I usually watch the lunchtime, but was busy!

Why are they covering this now? Is it because it has gone out in the US?

They are covering this as they were talking about how familiar it has become to see Bush and Blair together and that it was a publicity stunt to try and attract younger voters. Plus they waffled about some stuff about how he was more popular than Beckham.

With today's news that John Nicolson is to leave LBC 97.3, I wonder whether he will be part of the new ITV NC lineup when they relaunch with double-headed presentation?

According to the EPG the ITV NC is showing a profile of Jonny Wilkinson between 8 and 8.30

Well, they will certainly need to recruit a few more male presenters as they have only got 5 (Andrew Harvey, Steve Scott, Owen Thomas, Chris Rogers, Lloyd Bracey), and Lloyd only fills some days.

AGAIN!! This must be the ninth time?
Don't get me wrong, I love rugby and enjoyed the final, but it gets tiresome this many times, plus it interupts the usual news schedule.

I suppose ITV News have been getting thier money's worth out of the Rugby contract this time round. ITV News (and S4C) were the only UK companies to have access to the footage and so ITV News showed the final for the last time tonight straight after the Jonny Wilkinson documentary on ITV1.

I cannot seeing ITV NC showing this match soon - unless it is used overnight around Christmas when news is a bit thin on the ground and a replay might be in order to cover a quiet news night! Otherwise lets hope its been put to bed as the magic of it is starting to wear a bit thin now!

PS ITV News must be saving LOADS of money by showing this match rather than a proper 'breaking news for britain' service!

It was reported the other day that every other channel except ITV and S4C have to pay a large fee for the clip of the final, as ITV and the IRB have a deal then they can show it as many times as they like for a low fee. Granted this is popular and it is a great match to watch, evreryone's seen it now and ITV News doesn't seem to stick to News that much, they would have been easier putting it on ITV2, though I assume that this was only scheduled at last minute, as that Jonny Wilkinson Programme was a very late change, when I was looking at the EPG this morning, they still had House of Horrors on for 8pm. Even the trailer for Frost in the middle of the documentary said, After House of Horrors. But really it's just an easy way for the ITV NC to get high ratings.

I agree with what you are saying but at the end of the day ITV NC is the poor relation in news channels and needs to raise it's profile and gain some ground in the news channel world.

ITV NC is a commercial company and if showing an amazing final from the rugby gets some viewers to recognise that it exists then the objective has been met!

BBC News 24 doesnt really need to worry about ratings as it is funded by the license fee payer and gets regular publicity throughout the BBC networks. SKY News has been immensly popular and has gained its status by large amounts of money being thrown at the channel and now the results are paying off with a great service.

ITV NC was a late comer into the arena and if it has to use 'dirty tricks' to achieve a bigger audience share - so be it.

The channel isnt as bad as every makes out and I suppose for the tiny budget they recieve (compared to SKY and BBC) it isnt really that bad pound for pound spent!

Admittedly it is underfunded and this is proven on air - between say 8am - 11pm the service provided is acceptable and constantly improving!
