ITV News Channel and BBC News 24 are gearing up for the next phase of the ratings battle as they both prepare to overhaul their rolling news services in the run-up to the new year.
ITV News Channel has just received a seven-figure cash injection from majority shareholders Granada and Carlton, in a bid to “change its whole look” in a revamp by early next year.
The funding comes a year after it rebranded from ITN News Channel. Editor Dominic Crossley-Holland said one likely change would be doubling the daily news presenters to two .
“There will also be more live content and less repetition on the programme,” he told Press Gazette.
The move coincides with an overhaul of BBC News 24, which was overseen by BBC Ten O’Clock News editor Mark Popescu. The channel is expected to relaunch on 1 December.

Very interesting.
Wasn't it said some time ago that any relaunch of ITV News would happen initially on the News Channel before being rolled out to ITV1? Maybe this is what is happening. Whatever happens though, the use of dual-presenting will be superb and is what the channel has been crying out for for a while now.

I do hope they revamp ITV News on ITV1 soon for I'm sick of looking at that backdrop behind the presenters. I mean does anyone actually think it is real? Why did they go from having a newsroom backdrop of people moving around to a still backdrop with nothing happening!?

But how do you achieve that as the News Channel uses the ITV News set ? If you make changes on the ITVNC (especially to the set) surely they will be reflected immediately on ITV News, unless ITV1 bulletins just make use of the CSO.

Well I think the extra money will be a huge benefit, and dual anchoring would improve the channel, especially during Breaking News.
It would also be nice if they could get some sports presenters in the studio to cover the sports segment (Alex Thomas, Nick Bashford, Joanna Gaserwoska, Simon Ellis-Jones).
Pregnant Andrea Catherwood was standing at the screen this evening and threw in a little joke, "To look at me you wouldn't think it, but birth rates are actually on the decrease."

ITN's website is still listing him as Royal Correspondant, and Helen Wright as a News Reporter.
It was nice to see Trevor McDonald on the News Channel today at 5pm, he seems more confident and comfortable just talking to someone and being interviewed. He was there talking to Heather McCarthy for about ten minutes whilst he promoted his interview with Mrs Bush.

Well I see Tom Bradby is being formally introduced as 'UK Editor' from today. Seems a bit of a vague title to me, but he's a good reporter anyhow.

Well it is the same ITN website which "supplied news for Channel 4's The Big Breakfast" up until a few months ago!
Anyway, what do think of how BBC N24 seem to be gearing up for their relaunch by poaching from their biggest rivals. I think the ITVNC need to make a publicity making move of sorts as well so they're not left out in the cold.

I disagree. Poaching rivals is ok - but it does give the impression that you don't have home grown talent. ITV NC is getting better and stronger and will relaunch itself soon with the rest of ITV News. They've already got the best known names presenting on the channel, unlike BBC News24 or Sky. And remember, most people will never have heard of Simon McCoy like most people don't know who Sheila Jansen is, or Heather McCarthy or Rachel McTavish. You're only "known" if you're on terrestrial. News Channel audiences are measured in tens of thousands. It's just people like us watch them like hawks all the time!

John Suchet presenting from outside Buck Palace tonight on the ITVNC with Steve Scott in the studio. Which is nice.
