Right thinking Rogers is in the wrong
The excitement of the day's proceedings seems to have been playing havoc with Chris Rogers' ability to read an autocue on the ITV News channel. Summing up shadow chancellor Michael Howard's position in a post-IDS Tory party, he reminded viewers that Ann Widdecombe described Howard as having "something very right" about him. Maybe Widdecombe has revised her assessment over recent weeks but wasn't it "something of the night"?
Crouching tiger Boulton; not so hidden Robinson
A collective sigh of relief around the country today as the increasingly tedious will-they-won't-they shaft Iain Duncan Smith intrigue finally prompted a vote of confidence in his leadership of the Tory party. The media scrum outside Tory central office after IDS came out and defiantly announced that he would face the vote of confidence tomorrow was truly something to behold. Sky News political editor Adam Boulton popped up - quite literally, as if he'd been crouching on the ground out of shot - on camera as soon as IDS had finished speaking to comment on the latest turn of events. But what was ITN's Nick Robinson doing, clearly in shot over Boulton's right shoulder on Sky News, also delivering a live two-way? Is this some new pooling system you're not telling us about, guys?
BBC Marr's ITV's news figures
You'd have thought BBC News 24 had enough opportunities for cross-promotion without its ITV 24-hour news channel rival giving it a helping hand. As the media pack waited for Iain Duncan Smith's statement this afternoon, ITV News lingered on an empty doorway, with the instantly recognisable figure of the BBC's Andrew Marr doing a live piece to camera just in shot. Cue literally several ITV News viewers, who couldn't be bothered to wait for ITV's Nick Robinson, switching over to News 24. It might even have been a dozen.
Am I the only one to have seen the 5 minute ITV News Report earlier on in the afternoon, then?
When was that?
At about 2:50pm. It was about Iain Duncan-Smith as usual and presented by Sir Trev's future predecessor Mark Austin.
See, if they hadn't scrapped the 3pm update they wouldn't have needed that!

yes I saw the itv news summary at 3.00 pm with Mark Austin but I would say it was only on for 1 to 2 mins. will there be a specially extended news tomorrow to see if IDS stays or goes as leader of the conservatives. has anyone got a news report image they could upload. there have been 2 whit in 3 weeks. the one either last sunday or the sunday before heartbeat with katie derham and one at 3.00 pm today with mark austin
Is it me, or is Chris Rogers just truly awful? He looks as though he has a dishcloth on his head and can't read the autocue properly. The latter, one would think, would be quite important if you want to read the news.

Chris is usually an excellent newsreader in my opinion, if he wasn't, he wouldn't have had so many high-profile jobs (and flops) in his career. He's not even 30 yet! Seeing as he left Sky to concentrate on the ITVNC, can we be expecting an appearance from him on ITV1 in the near future?

I think Chris is usually very good. He is an excellent anchor usually and handles breaking news well and is great at interviewing stubborn guests.
He can make a joke when necessary and can have the right mode for different types of news.
He is much better than some news anchors and I think is an excellent one.
