One of the main promotional points that the ITV News Channel give is the fact that it looks identical to an ITV1 news broadcast. New viewers know exactly what they are getting straight away. They treat it as a plus point rather than a negative. Therefore I can't see the channel being that different from ITV1 News bulletins
Yes, I agree with that, it is definitely an advantage to have the same brand familiarity. You know its wht you want and expect, though I trhink it is important the NC have their own studio, because in the current CSO they do not have the ability to have guests, use different camera angles, use the big screen to go to reports.
Mark Austin works better presenting on his own. Maybe he should move to the 1230 bulletin. Nicholas Owen works better in dual presenting, he should co-present the ITV Evening News.
They should also introduce dual presentation on the News Channel. The current, one presenter line-up just doesn't feel like a 24 hour newschannel.

Why the heck would Mark Austin accept being relegated to a daytime bulletin?
When ITV News relaunches, will ITV1 get a fresh look aswell?
I very much doubt it. The idea of the relaunch will be to bring it inline with the itv1 current branding.
If you look at the main sequences on the news bulletans on itv1, they may have introduced the blue and yellow, but still use the old style itv logo in white with see through letters.
The main focus would most probably make it fit in with the yellow and blue square design like they have done with itv2, and to make the channel feel connected to the itv news bulletins yet with a feel of a rolling news channel.
I wonder if they will create two sets for the channel and itv1.
In answer to your question about the possibility of two sets, No.
As mentioned, the re-branding of ITV News and the News Channel is to make it famiiar as one to the viewer.
It could be as one without coming from the same set. I know it most probably isnt possible for two massive sets to be created. What would be nice is if they could fit the the same style of set into the main itv news studio and then fit the current cso studio (the one that five are currenty using) with same elements.
The CSO studio must be quite big for the main news to come from there pre 1999. Perhaps using a rear projection in the main itv news studio that shows a similar view as the CSO studio windows looking over the newsrooms. Maybe split the main newsroom into a couple of sections with the desk towards a side or corner rather than in the centre, then have the screen with a stage infront of it, with this area being able to be able to have the screens sround it and used for cso purposes.
The news channel would then use studio 4 with a replica desk being added to this. They may add a column of plasma screens to be used to use different elements of the studio and stand up and present from here.
By having the same desk and same background, this studio would look like the desk area of the main set, and viewers would still think that it was the same studio.
A question: In studio 4, when itv news was broadcast from there, the itn news channel, and now whilst five are using it they have the blue glass, is the glass blue? Or is there a blue material that goes infront or behind this? Could this be removed?
Tonight, the Evening News is with Mark Austin & Andrea Catherwood. I thought now that Mary is back, Katie would fill most of the gaps, so I wonder why she isn't presenting?
Also, isn't it lucky ITV News appointed a sports editor a couple of weeks ago, otherwise who would be covering all of todays hoo-har? It would probably be Romilly, Catherine or someone like that.
Well Mary hasn't presented all this week, and Katie has obviously done too much for the week... remember if say Trevor is absent from News at Ten, John won't do it every single day.

Andrea Catherwood also did the ITV Lunchtime News, with Felicity Barr doing the earlier ITV News Summary. The EPG said Nicholas Owen for both, so it may have been a late decision

Nicholas was down in a pub in Leeds chatting to some people about football.
Though I do think Andrea is an excelent anchor, perhaps not as good as Katie but excellent either way. Perhaps they are treating us to lots of her before she goes away on maternity leave?

A not very practical but a good idea would be to have one major set where both the ITV1 programmes and the ITV News Channel could be presented from at the same time, however i would have though that this would couse technical problems due to over hearing the other channel. This setup could lead to interesting occurances whereby a guest could be interviewed on the Evening News and then swivel round on the chair and be interviewed on the News Channel.
Moving on from the radical idea, ITN could construct two sets with a central theme e.g. a news room, however the ITV1 set could have a mesh screen to give the newsroom a 'frosted' effect (as pre ITV current) and the news channel could have a clean image this would give the ITV1 bulletins a newsroom backing whereas the News Channel would have a more 'in the newsroom' feel. The ideal answer is to construct two identical sets.
I WOULD RATHER THAT THERE WAS A CLEAN IMAGE OF THE NEWSROOM IN THE ITV 1 SET ASWELL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS TREND IS TO CREATE SOME SORT OF COLOUR OVER THE NEWSROOM IMAGE, IT LOOKS STUPID EG. IN THE CURRENT ITV NEWS STUDIO THERE IS THAT BLUEISH COLOUR.
