I see Mark Webster is reading the overnight news again all this week. He should definally stick to reporting.

Even Sharon Grey was better than this!

Yes, Mark Webster just doesn't leave a good impression as an anchor. He doesn't have a particular style or way to add life into the stories, he sometimes seems a bit lost, like between stories when he just looks up for a few seconds blankly.
Though I was never a fan of Sharon, prefer Owen! At least when Sharon was there it was a more fixed schedule: you knew that overnights would always be with Owen or Sharon. Now it always Owen & either Joyce Ohajah, Mark Webster, Lloyd Bracey, Sian Jones, Jemma Woodman etc...

So, as the other thread states, NAT is moving to 2230, I wonder who will anchor, as Trevor probably wont want to stay that late, and besides he must be looking to retire soon. Will John get the job or will it go to someone else, do you think?

I was wondering about Trevor myself. Doesn't he cover News at Ten up to 10.30pm at the moment, but not any later. If so, he might carry on as the main anchor for the new show.

Either that, or he'll do a Bob Friend, go into semi retirement, do the occasional bulletin, carry on with Tonight and be brought out for big occasions, (Royal ceremonies, elections etc)

If Trevor does go, I would assume that John Suchet would take the helm being the most senior newscaster. After John, it must be Mark Austin next in the pecking order, he's covered a few News at Ten's of late.

I think that Nicholas Owen should get a chance for a more watched bulletin, rather than being relegated to the Lunchtime News and occasionally the Evening News. He has wit about him and adds life to certain stories.

Yes he does that, after the opening titles, he seems to think for a second or two before saying "Good Morning" and then reads the autocue, putting full stops at the end of each line. Lloyd Bracey is much better!

Re, McDonald, maybe he could move to 6.30, has he ever had a co-presenter before? Trevor McDonald and Mary Nightingale perhaps?

I THINK THE FOLLOWING SCHEDULE WOULD WORK. (BORDER)

1800 - NEWS AT SIX
1830 - LOOKAROUND
1900 - 2000 - SOAPS
2000 - REGIONAL PROGRAMMING
2030 - DRAMA / FILM
2200 - NEWS AT TEN
2230 - BORDER NEWS
2245 - 0600 - REPEATS / REGIONAL PROGRAMMING

DROP ITV MORNING NEWS AT 0530, GO STRAIGHT TO GMTV AT 0600.

He must have had a co-presenter in the really old days of News at Ten, when it was the likes of Alastair Stewart, Sandy Gall & Julia Somerville.

Nah, he needs someone older, like Carol Barnes or Julia Somerville. Or even Angela Rippon.

We can dream.

FYI ITV Lover, Carol Barnes was on the NC the other day.

But I am more of an Owen person myself, he does make the NC worth watching overnight, he made a fantastic comment sometime ago before a weather link and skitted Chrissie Reidy's hair, which was very amusing at 1.55am. Just a shame poor Owen doesn't get promoted. Chris Rogers seems to be going on the NC more now and he too is making the News more watchable on there.

But where has Nicholas Owen been? I only saw the LN on Monday and then it was Katie Derham, who seems to be taking a leaf out of Nick's book by adding humours comments before Regional Links. But I think Nicholas Owen should stay on the LN as he made that programme fantastic to watch and he is better on his own and at Lunchtime as he does seem to look more comfortable on screen.

Well this is different at the moment!

Chris Rogers introduced a bit about a crown worn by Victoria Beckham on her wedding, which they have in the studio. A producer came in from the side of the set wearing it, the designer talked about it stood up, and Chris Rogers stood up from his seat to discuss it with them. Looked very nice, they were all stood on the opposite side to the big screen.

Yes, I flicked onto the NC at about 5.40pm and saw Chris Rogers standing behind the desk and the other two and though it look a bit different!
The News Channel have been using different camera angles recently, like reading stores whilst the camera is at the side to get the screen and desk in. I wonder why the News Channel never has a presenter standing at the big screen, like on the ITV1 news? It would provide a bit of variation instead of having all stories read from behind the desk.
Also, after the Evening News, Katie and Mark usually come back and introduce a final story on the NC, yet this hasn't happened for a few days, instead they fill the gap with a trailer, I wonder why this is?

Re Owen Thomas's website, has everyone looked in the www.owenthomas.tv/images/ directory, there's more photos in there including shots of Owen in the ITV News Gallery, preparing for the Morning News
