A case in point is that Vanessa/Trisha slot. I know it's popular and everything but ITV would get the same ratings figures if they just shoved on the latest trailer-park US show on at this time rather than a rather pale UK copy. What's the name of the guy who does the current one, Jeremy something? Jerry Springer's still going, thousands saved each year, job's a good'un. The UK programme's crap anyway, and the typical viewer of this show would probably prefer to see fat Americans throwing chairs at each other in any case.

Laughing Yeah,Jeremy Kyle is rubbish.Trisha's a lot better. All Jeremy Kyle does is shout at people so that people will watch.

before pre-school series were moved from lunchtime (although they were repeated the 20 mins shows in the afternoon in the "old days"!!!!!!)

I seem to remember on Granada

1230pm Mon-Wed - The Sullivans
1230pm Thur, Fri - Take The High Road
1300 ITV News at One
1330 Foreign Drama's (except Fri)
1430 Various factual series.. including regional programmes (except Fri)
3pm Gameshows (except Fri)
130pm to 330pm Fri - Film
330pm Mon, Tue - Sons and Daughters
330pm Wed-Fri - The Young Doctors

IIRC Blue Heelers was never shown in Granadaland but the odd episode I did see on Central it did seem good enough to watch. In Fact Blue Heelers is still being made in Oz, along with Shortland Street is still in production in NZ

Anyone remember Richmond Hil or even Santa Barbara?????

On HTV Wales in the late 80s/very early 1990s it was;

12.30pm
Mon/Tues The Sullivans
Wed Gardening Time
Thurs/Fri Take The High Road

3.30pm
Mon/Tues The Young Doctors
Wed-Fri Sons and Daughters

Then when Home and Away started its lunchtime screening they took the 12.30pm slot, so The Sullvans moved to around 2pm (still on a Monday and Tuesday - it was always on a Monday/Tuesday for years and year on HTV)

A Country Practice used to be shown 1 hour on either a Thursday or Friday IIRC. When Sons and Daughters ended in May 1991 it was replaced by A Country Practice half hour episodes on Wed-Fri at 3.30pm instead. ACP then reverted back to the 1 hour episodes on a Friday for a while when The Sullivans moved to 3.30pm on Mon/Tues (around 1993) and The Young Doctors moved to Wed-Fri at 3.30pm. It seemed that ACP was the worst to be moved around the schedule, and generally reduced in episodes a week if there was something better to show, and it ended up at 5.10pm from about 1994 onwards. No wonder it took HTV until March 1999 to complete the run.

We also never got Blue Heelers on HTV. They seemed to prefer Shortland Street instead. On Westcountry it was the other way around and they got Blue Heelers and didnt show Shortland Street (until it was on all Carlton regions in 2003)

I liked ACP - I know some people slag it off but it was good drama. I remember when I used to visit family in the Central region it was years and years behind HTV there and being about 9 or 10 at the time I couldnt understand why different regions were at different stages. HTV were so slow at showing ACP even Central overtook us before the end and they were years behind us in the early 1990s.

can someone Explain why Blockbuster lost the ratting battle with Neighbours when it was never shown next to Neighbours in the during the early 90;s???

Who says Blockbusters lost out to Neighbours?

Blockbusters came to the end of the line because of the intensifying ITV politics of the mid-90s mainly, with regions electing to replace it with local programmes and generally kick it around the schedule. Being bought up by Sky didn't help either.

..and people say ITV has gone downhill.

Look at the amount of imported crap in that first schedule. A Country Practise, S&D, H&A (twice), Runaway Bay, The Equalizer, Donahue, Riveria.

Thank God for ITV4 keeping this kind of rubbish off the main channel.

Runaway Bay was actually a British programme (can't remember if it was a Yorkshire programme or not!!!) filmed in another country - but all the same BRITSH!

Yeah Runaway Bay was an excellent show with a excellent theme tune, which I'm trying to find but so far not succedded.

There was a period in the mid 1980's, where Blockbusters aired 6 days a week. Definitely in the Central region. Monday - Friday was the usual 5.15-5.45 slot, and Saturdays I think changed about, the 5.05, 5.10, or 5.35 type slot was used.

Although often unreliable, the different region's showings' of the Australian Soaps, particularly Sons and Daughters, is well documented on Wikipedia.

That was what made ITV interesting, though different regions doing their own thing rather then all coming from a centralised unit at the South Bank.

I take it you mean Vanessa?

I think it started in about 1995, ISTR Carlton had a strand called Afternoon Live that was shown in quite a few Regions (as Granada showed it) and Vanessa was usually on about 2.20pm with some Cookery programmes and a repeat of Coronation Street thrown in for good measure.

Afternoon Live didn't last long at all, I couldn't tell you who presented, just I remember that Carlton did it.
