The good news is that Genesis of the Daleks is rumoured to be coming out on DVD in march. One of the best stories ever.

It's more than rumoured, but not until April 10th (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2006/01/25/29086.shtml), followed in May by Inferno .

Fantastic News. Genesis of the Daleks is one of the best stories ever and features a stunning performance by Michael Wisher as Davros.

Why can't UKTV show the old Doctor Who Dalek episodes? I heard it was about religion somewhere !!!!!

The rights to the Daleks are co-owned by the estate of Terry Nation. The representatives demand a high fee for the use of the Daleks and UKGold is not willing to pay this. THe BBC had similar problems when it wanted to use the Daleks in the new series and for several weeks it was thought they would not be able to

Wonder if anyone actually pays the Nation Estate high prices?

Surely it defeats the object!

Besides Doctor Who Dalek material, what else is the Nation Estate blocking ?

Well that's excellent news about Inferno, a marvellously conceived and produced story as I recall. Although isn't some of it of dubious origin? It'll be interesting to see what the restoration team have to say about that. Incidentally their website is a very interesting read from a technical point of view (http://www.restoration-team.co.uk).

However I always found Genesis a little over-rated. It's good, but I always felt it would have been better as a 4 parter. Indeed, for many years I thought Genesis was a 2 parter from listening to the audio tape, and I remember finding it terribly sluggish when I first saw the original episodes!!

Anyway on to UK Gold, I'm glad they're going back to Pertwee's, it's been a while since I've seen any. The slot is just too damn early though, even on +1.

Well, having laid into Genesis before, I will probably buy it given that Uncle Tom is doing the commentry! As far as I'm aware this is the first one he's done for a very long time - was The Ark In Space the last one he did? I believe he also did commentries for the entire Key To Time season but that's only available on Region 1, and hasn't been dealt with by the Restoration Team (I think).
