I was watching Catchphrase this morning on Challenge, and this endcap was used at the end

Was this endcap actually used originally or has it been added later?

Most other episodes use the more standard 'A Calton programme for ITV'

That would have been a first endcap, with the Carlton for ITV cap shown afterwards. Seems that for the reruns they've edited out the end-endcap.

Wasn't CARLTON UK productions, all the shows that were produced by Central in Nottingham?

Yeah I remember they used to show a Central Endcap after that Carlton one on some shows.

This was the best endcap at the end of Catchphrase

ISTR that the cap above was followed by a very short lived 'Carlton Production for ITV' endcap, it wasn't the one with the plant in the background, it was another one that looked like a planet.

Can't say I've ever seen that sort of Carlton UK endcap before, it was never the style at the time. They introduced Carlton UK, and then they went back to Central AIUI, then eventually to Carlton in 1999.

The Carlton UK productions caption with the firey planet was used at the end of all Carltons programmes for a while (after the takeover of Central) as well as the usual caption for Central/Carlton.

It's similar to the LWTP (LWT Productions) slide that used to appear on the end of LWTs shows for a while

The Carlton endcap that followed the Action Time cap was definitely not the plant. It was
A
CARLtON
programme for
IT*

and the background was light green or somewhat. The type of caption I have shown above was used until around 1996 when CARLtON had new idents and therefore new endcaps. I could be wrong but the caption above was small compared to other endcaps but it would normally be shown at the end of published programmes.

That has to be one of the most uninspired encaps ever produced.

A background that can be created in Photoshop in under 30 seconds, with two standard logos and a typeface that doesn't match the rest of it. Looks like a mock to be perfectly honest.

So was the Channel 4 logo....

Carlton's idents and logos were always pants. With one exception of course (the hearts ones were really very good).

Anything that makes Granada look good can't be very inspiring!!
