And in any case the Michael Barrymore interview is a news story in itself. It is a story of interest to the public, it was the lead on a national newspaper this morning and has featured on the Sky News website. Just because the show is on ITV1 doesn't mean it can't be mentioned on the ITV News.

I know exactly what you mean, i'm often very tempted to do the same, but the way ITV are going at the moment half of the problems won't exist by the time your finished. There are two ways to interpret that, ITV may not be around in the year 2050 when you finish/or ITV Digital will probably fold soon! Wink

Precisely!

One universal schedule for all 15 regions with the exception of the regional news will take the heart and soul out of ITV.

ITV was one happy family of 16 local independent TV companies right accross the UK joining force to make and broadcast a fantastic mix of programmes that had everybody glued to their seats. It's an absolute shambles now with Granada and Carlton bullying every other region to provide the same schedule 24/7/365.

There used to be a local schedule at one time during the day with the continuity announcers keping you company day and night. At one time when the idents appeared on screen accompanied by their jingles before programmes shown across the entire ITV network, there used to be extra pride if it was made in your very own ITV region.

Now it's totally marginalised with ITV totally destroyed compared to how great it was many years ago.

And has anyone noticed that the number of productions made by the likes of Tyne Tees, HTV, Grampian, Border and the other small franchises has actually gone down? Sure, there weren't many to begin with but now virtually all ITV1 shows are made by Carlton, Granada, LWT, or an independent...

I think we should go back to the days of

'An Anglia production for ITV' or 'A Carlton presentation on ITV'

EVERY programme was produced or presented by at least one ITV franchise, whether it was Home and Away (a Carlton production) or Wheel of Fortune (a Scottish Television production for ITV).

Now it could be anything from a franchise to production company and usually isn't credited to ITV in any way

Is not it strange that the BBC (the National channels) are getting regionalised when ITV (the regional channel) is nationalising?

ITV isn't really nationalising - I suppose you could say that in a corporate sense, but not really for the audience in terms of local news etc.

And how is the BBC regionalising? It may be increasing the number of regions for better coverage, but it doesn't mean the BBC is completely regionalising.

(I meant Home and Away was a Carlton Presentation on my previous post, by the way - couldn't be bothered to edit it!)

Home and Away was a Yorkshire Television Presentation in my region.
i.e YTV were presenting it to the YTV region, In the same way Carlton was to yours

OK - I didn't know that. I thought it was presented to the network. I stand corrected - but at least it was still related to ITV in some way, more than it is now.

The reason we don't have programme production slides that say 'A Yorkshire TV Production for ITV' anymore is because the programmes could be sold to any number of channels. They might appear on C4, ITV2, UK Gold, Granada Plus etc. So they just stick up 'A Yorkshire TV Production' which means they don't have to do new slides when the production is sold on.

I'm sure there is a headline for Panorama in the Sunday Ten O'Clock News on BBC One now.... Smile   not part of the news is it...!

Yes, I thought someone would mention that.  I did consider this, but I think that Panorama is normally background to a current news story - looking at a story in more detail and explaining it.  ITV's Tonight was an interview with Michael Barrymore.  I think there is a difference.  Had the Tonight programme in question had been 'a look behind the war and the causes on it' my view would have been profusely different.

Edit - in case you're on of those people who normally avoids polls let me draw your attention to this thread: http://www.tvforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=1&topic=1061 - 'tis a good poll.

Ideally, I would have preferred to have seen digital terrestrial Set Top boxes sold as manufactured by Philips, Pace and Sony.  Not ITV digital.  ITV are trying to do far too much they are not well renowned for as well as providing TV channels which they are well famed for.

All the free to air channels including ITV2, BBC News 24, BBC Choice, ITN News channel etc could have been included free with the set top box with no obligation to fork out a huge amount on unwanted channels as you do presently with all the digital platforms at present.

The Set top box manufacturers in conjunction with major TV companies including ITV and Sky could have provided an mobile phone style up-2-u service with the customer selecting only the channels they require at a reasonable rate.  The customer would have to phone up a special number simillar to cutomers at Telewest or NTL to activate their digital service.  ITV sport, ITV Select etc would still have been available on the digital terrestrial Set Top box even if ITV were in no control of the service at all.

I would suggest that ITV relinquishes control of digital terrestrial to the manufacturers and specialist technicians/engineers and just proucces provides top quality channels and programmes broacast on the set top box, wiping the floor with Sky in viewing figures on all digital platforms.
