Sheesh in that time, BBC News 24 will have had about 6 Sets of Graphics a rebrand. New studio new titles/music etc. lol

The better get their finger out. Take some inspiration from NI and their little bits they've done.

A bit of perspex and some 'BBC Scotland' decals would be a bit extravagant for the boys at Queen Margaret Drive. Razz

Some perspex branding? Oh please no!

Incidentally, there is a *little* bit of branding on the newsroom set - the blinds to the left of the presenter have a shot of the Rep Scot titles.

Ahem... Embarassed

On now to SMG, and the continual moan about their branding. The Pop Idol Night trailer for Saturday where on the NPU version Trish tells us "change the channel" between ITV1 and 2.... well in SMG country, you change the channel between ITV2 and erm.... the channel with four blue boxes, according to the graphic.

HOW DIFFICULT would it have been to run two separate trails in STV and Gramp (even for this one trailer) with the logos in place ... you know, just to actually make their graphic make sense.

UTV on the other hand took the ITV1 NPU trail earlier but have since redited it to take out all reference to ITV2. How-very-clever. Sad

That has been proven.

The Shot on the blinds I think is a projection is it not. They;ve been doing that for quite some time now.

So when the programmes are listed on the end board does it say Pop Idol is on 4 blue boxes and Pop Idol Extra is on ITV2 etc etc?

I wonder how popular ITV2 is in Northern Ireland if UTV don't bother advertising it

RPS is much more professional than Border TV's Lookaround .The format set and music are just awful and so are the presenters those chairs are just the pits . Border need a complete overhaul smaller news bulletins are crap too as are the presenters Susannah , Heather, and John .

Of course you know what i'm going to say now we should get Scotland Today NOT lookaround .

The only thing i ever liked about Border was Maggie Mash .

Bear in mind though that Border have always been individualistic when it comes to news magazines; as for Scotland Today, forget it! It would be all about Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Lookaround isn't perfect but the limited coverage we get from them is a damn sight more than what Scotland Today would provide.

Anyone else remember when STV did an East Coast opt during Scotland Today? I'm surprised they did away with it - that was years and years ago.

Ah yes indeed i remember Nick Radcliffe reading from the West and Caroline Dempster reading from the East around 1980.
John Toye ,Marion White and also Paul Murricane reporting .

Weh hey. I got quite into the show after John Toye and the black drape grim look. Was particularly fond of Sheena McDonald and Haig Gordon, with excellent weather from Roz.

Do you remember the brown set with 45 degree stripes? My brother had that wallpaper, hung in the correct vertical orientation. My very first video camera (hand held tube with umbillical to VHS-C deck) set on a tripod tilt head recreated it beautifully! Holding my position to make myself look like I was sitting normally wasnt so easy. Probably best if you cant imagine what I'm describing. Its really *quite* embarrassing looking back at it now.

Actually STV covers quite a few stories from the Borders those ones that are news worthy that is (IE) Lockerbie if my memory serves me correctly Kaye Adams was one of the first reporters on the scene they do see that are as their patch too you know .and i recall something recently about Dumfries social work department .

I have seen quite a few stories on about south scotland i must admit though i did think it was strange Glasgow must have been quiet that day.

What do people think of Scottish TV Weather? I just saw it then, the maps are a bit impressive but it did seem to drag on for ages

STV did have their Gateway studios up until the early 1990s IIRC - would this have been used for the East opt-out? They still have a newsroom there but the main complex was sold to one of the Edinburgh colleges some time ago.

Scotland does have two broadcasting anomalities: one being Scotland's captial city being served by two Glasgow-based broadcasters, and the other is a substantial part being served by an English-based company (Border). I'm surprised this hasn't been sorted out...
