I don't think we should underestimate the desk, it's a dying breed. I'd like to see NWT do well, perhaps they could start by timing the Breakfast bulletins better [even though Tina doesn't even self-op anymore] and put Runcorn Bridge [complete with cones] back on the titles again.

I have to say I would like the Runcorn Bridge back on the titles, the only thing I like about the current titles is that they look right in Widescreen and they are cropped correctly, compared to previous titles. Though the titles should be remade, with more views of the Runcorn Bridge or a Manchester Tram or something, as the little kids walking in the water have nothing to do with the region and I don't recongise where the footballers are running at either.

To be honest I am starting to miss the self-op, the clunks sound really funny when they have to opt-out, but Tina starts off slowly, then the bulletin might overun, as Tina usually says:

"Good Morning everyone, Tina Bangs here with the News in the North West"

While Nigel Jay does it slightly differently, which saves time. Though no-one is bad as Peter Berry on Granada, I saw the 11.00 bulletin today and he tried to add a sense of humour to it, but it didn't work.

BTW Does anyone else think that Gordon is starting to lose his voice slightly? As it seems to be getting worse across this year and it is getting worse or higher.

Originally the footballers were only in the NW and the paddlers were only LN (not sure which version). Then a while after the new titles launched we got an update, which here in the NW meant losing Runcorn Bridge, gaining the non-descript paddlers and some of the shots being reordered.
I think it was mentioned on here at the time. Personally, I'd rather each region kept to region-specific pictures - mind you, I believe NWT has a greater share of recognisable places than some of the regional progs do.

The paddlers clip is from Look North Newcastle. But I have to agree with you from the recognisable places as I do know what and where they all are execpt for the footballers; Salford Quays (The cyclists going over the bridge), Blackpool (The old biddies all having a laugh) Liverpool (All the young people having a laugh with the Liver building in the background) Runcorn Bridge (People taking their dogs for a walk) and Jodrell Bank (A couple of guys and their greenhouse) Now if you compare that to most BBC regions thats alot, as I have seen most of the other English Regions' titles and I don't recognise many of the places except for

-The Humber Bridge (Look North Hull)
-The Eden Project (Spotlight)
-London Eye/Westminster (LDN)

Shows how much I recognise! Laughing

Yes, as well as the return of Runcorn Bridge to NWT [like on Granada], the paddling kids need to go off back up to the north east region again -- a replacement clearly needs to be made, from

Much better.

They're a tourist attraction you know, I've seen the postcards. Not that anyone thinks they're anything more than a laughing stock but at least they're actually *from* the region.

ROFL! Fan-bloody-tastic! Very Happy

Not what I was quite thinking of, they should have one of a Manchester Tram or something like that.

I noticed tonight that Runcorn Bridge is back, although I wasn't watching enough to notice whether it's gone back to starting with the footballers - anyone else notice?
I presume they changed yesterday.

See, you see. Do you see how influential this place is? Do you see with your eyes? We only have to say something in passing and those with the power are at our command -- and Runcorn Bridge is back again.

Either that or they've just gone back to their winter titles, as usual for October.

I rather think it's the former though.

And although Peter Berry does indulge in a bit too much *shouting*, at least he can pronounce Daresbury properly.

Possibly they could have a Manchester Tram to start the titles.By leaving a stop either St Peters Sq or Piccadilly Gardens.

Earlier in the thread someone asked about Granadas Liverpool studio.

I was fortunate enough to be shown round a few weeks ago. All signs of the now long gone Shop! have dissappeared save for a huge stack of kit in the old scene dock. The studio on the top floor and the gallery have been completely gutted and don't even look like they were ever a studio at all. The only thing they do have is an edit suite or two to send cut stories down the line to manchester. Its a real shame 'cause its a lovely old building. No idea what they intend to do in the long term.

As with NWT have they got round to adding any black into that opening wide shot?It bears no relation what so ever to the colour of any other camera in the studio. And is Gordon still holding out against doing the evening news as a double header?

The circle titles (pre-corporate used to have just such a shot in. In a way it's more predictable than the ones in the current titles, which at least show a bit of variety of the region.

This is news to me - does he really have that much power/influence to be able to dictate this? I'm a little dubious, but would be interested to hear where this originates from.
