Isn't Granada Reports already being discussed in another thread?

IMHO NWT is the worst BBC regional news program on air. Its predecessor Look North, gave birth to a far superior program in 1968, Look North Leeds.

If I want to watch news about the north west region, then the option I have to choose is Granada Reports, but that program has always been a bit of a joke, and Granada's attempts at producing a sensible news program died with Scene At Six Thirty.

You really do keep up with UK TV over on the continent, don't you?

Would Granada Reports improve if they moved the main studio presentation back to the Albert Dock?

Was Granada Reports a better show when in originated in Liverpool, or should it never have away from Manchester in the first place?

Discuss.

Personally I believe they should make use of the Albert Dock for studio reports about items concerning Merseyside, and for live interviews of Liverpool City Councillors.

(Of course those tend to be the only councillors from Merseyside whom they do interview.)

It's a shame they don't use the Liverpool studios anymore, as at the time they were more hi-tech than Manchester, and of course they moved the whole News department down, but 6 years later they were back in Manchester, what was a good idea was something they did in Granada Tonight, which was that about 6 minutes into the programme after the headlines they went to Andrew Brittain at the Liverpool Newsroom, which looked better.

I would suggest an opt-out, but Merseyside is too small to have one, unless they had Cheshire too, but then that would cause more chaos, they should consider something like that for those watching on Satellite or Cable.

BTW Do they use the Liverpool studios anymore? Since Shop closed last year they seem to have been deserted, good studios going to waste.

Just somethink I was thinking about while watching Granada news this lunchtime. Why do all the presenters seem to whisper all the time? Tony Wilson always used to doi it and I noticed today that Lucy seemed to be as well. It's not that you can't hear them it just gets on my nerves after a while.

Dumb question time strikes again :

IF Yorkshire TV can have an opt out on Calendar for the City of Sheffield and environs from the Sheffield repeater (not a main station transmitter) on UHF tv channel 24, at 5,0 kW, why could not Granada do similarly for the City of Liverpool and environs with Granada Reports from the Storeton repeater on UHF tv channel 25, at 2,8 kW and the West Kirby repeater on UHF tv channel 24, at 15 W?

Regarding the question of being too small, what is the population coverage of the Sheffield repeater compared to the combined population coverage of the Storeton and West Kirby repeaters?

Does Liverpool have a separate relay for the whole city then?... how big an area does Storeton cover? As for West Kirby - well I think a West Kirby opt of either programme would be fantastic... "and today on Banks Road one of the old ladies motorbility vehicles fell off the pavement - that's our top story tonight..... and finally, a spider was found in the concourse swimming pool"

Sorry - I'm going now... Smile
