It's very loose, to be honest the next few days will probably be mourning the death of Richard Wilde who was a library researcher for Five News up until a couple of weeks ago.
Absolutely, it must be a rather shocking and distressing time for you.

Theres plenty of talk about mid September or early October BUT these things tend to just happen at the last minute and get rushed through.
Are you aware of any plans which have been drawn up already for the new look?
To be completly honest with you I personally didn't know him that well (just to say hello to really) but its still a sad time for all involved, not just within five but throughout ITN.
As far as plans are as yet, I think we can expect five news to be a little more conservative. Less snazzy camera shots, and a bit more like a poor mans BBC News. But no actual plans have been presented to the people I work with at five news though our editor etc is obviously privy to that information.
I don't think
five News
needs a relaunch at all. It's graphics and titles are very classy and look great.
The 2002 Channel 5 Idents were fantastic, very classy, and just take a look at what they were replaced with. The current idents are just simply crap. Please, please don't say five News is going the same way.
Five news has always been fresh and original. It's style is temporary and easy on the eye. I have enyoyed all of Five News sets, graphics and presenters but my favourite look was of course the newsroom.
The current set seems too small, and that white floor is always dirty and it doesn't look very professional! The current graphics are strong and represent the channel well. I think a desk would be good, it needs more action on the set. I think it needs to be more active, like the newsroom.
The only reason I would like a desk is for the presenter to sit on and rest their papers instead of that bench thing.
Are there two styles of bench, a proper bench at normal seating height and one thats higher like a stool height?
It would be nice if they could have a studio with a small desk at one side; a discussion area and a large screen; sort of like the original ri:se set!
The small desk would be center and forward with a large screen to the left and a discussion area to the right.
Though I know that a studio of this size would be impossible for five to find, afford and maintain. Though we can all dream! Perhaps if sky did five news instead of itn, we may get this studio!
five news seems tacky compared to five in general. I think a more traditional, yet still modern approach and look is needed for five news, perhaps a big desk with a newsroom view in the back and globe theme for the graphics and titles, with animated globes on the screens facing the presenter used for live link-ups.
more traditional music should be used, but with a modern twist, and of course get some more heavy-weight presenters in.
Angela Rippon, Martyn Lewis, and perhaps borrow Bob Friend if Sky provided the news to five.
Five News is far too boring nowadays and no different to what's offered on other channels.
I agree putting it back in the newsroom would be a good idea - rather than the original bold coloured room make it very trendy and contemporary.
Also Kirsty Young is a very good newsreader who really developed during her time at ITV. She is too good for Five though - they need a new face of news.

How is she too good for Five!? She is perfect for five News, you need your head seeing too mate.
Do you have any information on whether Kirsty will be perching or sitting behind the desk?
I think that a lot more could have been done with news studio than they have done:
How about having the news updates presented from in front of the tv screen, it would still need just the one camera that they use now and I also feel that it would create that "old five news" feel of fast and informal.
Another idea which may not work but think could be a good idea would be during the discussion show at 7. During Elaines update at 7.15, instead of having her in the editing suite/gallery then she could be standing in front of the big five news logo next to the newsroom. So that she doesnt have just the silver background, the camera angle would make it so that there would be some of the background that kirsty uses. This means that half of her would be on the silver background and half on the proper background. Not sure if this one would really work with the lack of room.

The 7 debate show is likely to be droped and to let you in on a little secret the area where Elaine or Louisa stands by for the debate show news belt is right opossite the set, its where the media manager sits and was once the place where KY would reads the wraps from. It takes less than a second and a half to get from KY's perch to that particualr area.
