So I've opted for the Official line in the thread title, as much as I hate this I can only assume that as somone working on the relaunch I'll be able to bring you all the latest relaunch information first and fastest. Forum members such as Re-it-er-ate can vouch for me as a legit member of the Five News team.

So let's kick off with what we expect from the forthcoming relaunch.

Quantel Leap, can I ask whether you think the re-launch is necessary, without trying to get you sacked, lol.

Go back to the newsroom! That worked so well and you could say it's influenced pretty much every news programme on UK television at the moment.

It isnt the fact that I think a relaunch is needed, but new ideas.

All news is the same nowadays, and the first carnation of 5 news offered something different being mobile around the news room, in depth reports, discussions, and no stationary position.

Id actually like to see the on the hour bullitans returning to five, when they started u got one very single hour; now they seem to be when they want them. For example why arent there any between the wright stuff and terry and gaby?

I do agree. This fast paced approach to the news is certainly what made me used to watch it.

I agree, go back to the newsroom. Its different and theres more room than the studio!

I think at the moment, the titles look great, but the graphics look shoddy. The aston is really tacky looking (why does it need to fly off?) and any other graphics look really badly made. The original graphics set were great - orange, purple and black worked really well, and they didn't resort to using a boring font like they do now.

To be honest it isn't THAT necessary, however I do love relaunches so I'm sure it'll be a nice change. So for we haven't heard much from the channel itself and discussions re logo's etc are way above little old me BUT obviously there is only a small space to work with and we are looking at temporary arrangements at the moment.

I'd love it to go back into the newsroom but it'll never happen sadly, hopefully the designers who are not in-house will come up with a fresh concept.

I think this is mainly due to funding and staffing. Most core studio staff start work at 11am whereas in the old days there was a full breakfast and overnight team and core studio staff used to start at 0930am.

I concur. Back to the newsroom. It was brilliant. Also, lets have the hourly updates back as well. They were good.

Also lets give Charlie Stayt, Katie Ledger & Elaine Parke a bigger role, instead of that demented Butler & Kirsy Young.

Lets have some vivid & flashy colours, not pasty blue.

Has a date for the relaunch been set yet. I've seen something about 6th September but there was some doubt around this.

It's very loose, to be honest the next few days will probably be mourning the death of Richard Wilde who was a library researcher for Five News up until a couple of weeks ago. Theres plenty of talk about mid September or early October BUT these things tend to just happen at the last minute and get rushed through.

Absolutely, it must be a rather shocking and distressing time for you.

Are you aware of any plans which have been drawn up already for the new look?
