At least ITV aren't offering virtually exactly the same line up as they've offered for the last few years, unlike the BBC.

Well, that's because ITV's line up flops every year and the BBC's doesn't. You may as well complain they show the same thing at 7.30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Apart from 'stEnders the programme that's been on consecutive Christmasses the longest is Doctor Who, first shown in 2005.

Given that ITV don't invest much in their Christmas programming, the BBC have a golden opportunity to be bold, but they go predictable and safe. We get the same basic structure every year, Who, Strictly, Enders, Royle Family. Nothing wrong with those shows, all great shows in their own right, but I'd like to see something less predictable in there.

also in the good old days there used to have "before there were famous" which was a nice treat at the very end.

And they're doing "One Born at Christmas" - a series of live shows over Christmas Eve/Day following Christmas births.

The early Christmas guides as useless as ever - but the preview of "highlights" on the BBC suggests every show is either a remake or rehash of the usual Christmas leftovers!

In a way they could do a live show on the Saturday before Christmas, have voting lines closing some point mid week & air the results on Christmas Day, even though it'd be outside of the main competition, surely viewers would watch.

Viewers might watch, but what about the advertisers ? The ad space around the X Factor final is the most lucrative 4 hours of the year for ITV in terms of ad spend, and it's timing is crucial in the run up to Christmas, when the shops are still open and people are still spending.

On Christmas Day, or after Christmas just wouldn't bring in the same numbers. As we know, it's only DFS and SCS that spend on advertising over Christmas. Laughing

I was saying in addition to the Final. A Christmas special, be it with Celebrities, the full current year line up with Christmas songs, or a Champions of Champions type of show with various winners of the show.

Raising a point about ITV & BBC Christmas Day Viewers, is there a reason why more people turn to BBC on days such as this, even if the content isn't as good? Especially when ITV has had good ratings through the Autumn season.

Even in major sporting & news events when broadcast on both BBC One & ITV1, more people will turn to BBC One, but is it through force of habit. Obviously 15-20 years ago the majority of TV sets turned on to BBC One when they were switched on, but what would be the current reason for peoples trust or faith in the BBC?

With the exception of Benidorm I think I'll be sticking to DVDs this year.

Shame they couldn't put Top Gear on the 25th, going through Iraq, Jordon and Israel to get to Bethlehem, should be great by the sounds of it.

Corrie and Eastenders wont overlap. The BBC shows seem like the right line-up but their timings will change by Tuesday.

And don't the BBC always deliberately overrun on Christmas Day anyway?
