I'm not sure about this new look. I've never felt huge area's of solid white on-screen looks good. It works in print etc but on-screen it looks wierd.

I saw one of the idents earlier. I thought for a moment they'd jazzed up the 80's synth jingle again!

Funny, that was also my first reaction, maybe just a hint of Fourscore in one or two of the idents (although maybe that's just me hoping it would be back...)
Anyways, like the idents, but the 4 just looks wierd on the trailer end boards at that angle. Looks like they've been playing with WordArt. Think they should change it to straight again.

From what I have seen so far I’m relatively impressed. The 3D logo itself isn’t fantastic, but also isn’t awful. The font change is a shame, it appears to be change for changes’ sake, but again it isn’t awful.
The concept for the idents is fantastic, the implementation is a little mixed. The scenarios are a little uninspiring (Tower block, Motorway…) however the form ups are done very well. They would IMHO look much better if they were filmed more smoothly, the handheld from a camera style looks quite tacky, a camera mounted on top of a car panning smoothly would make it look much better. Also the logo doesn’t remain in screen for very long, angle to keep it on screen for longer, or its’ formation triggering an overlaid logo could make them look a little better.
Generally a nice idea, done well but could have been better. With a bit of luck they will add to them (asking for more when I haven’t yet seen all 15[?] could be considered greedy by some!) over time to keep it fresh.

I'm getting more impressed by the new look as I get used to it, I think.
As I said earlier, I reckon a logo formation at the end could have made the idents better - however, I think I'm going back on my own suggestion now. I like the idea of the main channel identification coming during trailers or break bumpers, and the idents being quite ambiguous. I know I've phrased that rather pathetically but I can't think how else to explain it.
As Mich says, the font appears to be for the sake of change - if they kept DIN, I reckon everyone would be far more positive towards the new look. DIN is quite a "cool" font and seems to represent 4 as an alternative channel much better than this pretty, flowery font you'd expect Costa Coffee to use on their menus.
And as for the white - again, it doesn't seem to match up with the edginess somehow. It's not bad but it's also a bit funny. I'm also not 100% about the ECPs. Perhaps I'll get used to them but they seem quite clumsy to me.
What I'm pleasantly surprised about is the idents that seem to last for six days. It's rather nice for a television presentation anorak. A number of junctions I have seen, the CA stops announcing and gives us about 5 or 10 seconds of ident before the programme - whether this is them getting used to the new presentation I don't know. But it's quite nice to see Channel 4 using the presentation as a point instead of some kind of subconscious thing underneath what the bloke is saying.
