Maybe the BBC could live stream their BBC Three programming on YouTube. But then again, that would go in breach of the TV License so perhaps not!

A Saturday morning programme aimed at children would have little to no impact on the 16-24 age group. If the BBC is to be successful in getting teens watching anything commissioned out of the children's budget it will require the dropping of the CBBC brand from it as the current generation of teens won't pay attention to anything aimed at children. In fact the solution may well be in moving Cbeebies online only, returning CBBC to ending at 7pm and creating a new channel between 4-9 with a new name and branding aimed at teens.

O course if your younger that 14 then well there no clear link to transgress over to other BBC channels when you. Sat morning was a shop window, to link people together. Once you hit 12 you lose interest in BBC or ITV content.

The BBC should use some of the airtime for CBBC and launch a BBC Switch-esque block.

When Channel Four launched it started a trend that Programme content must be aimed at a narrow demographic.
That was then, I don't see why people of all ages cant watch anything if you make it properly. For a public service broadcaster such as the BBC narrowing the aim of any programme is pointless.

Just out of interest, does anybody happen to know which channel is best reaching the demographic that the BBC isn't?

I can't think of many things the BBC does these days which makes it more distinctive than say Netflix or Amazon in terms of producing content.

Rolling Eyes Apart from everything. Compared to Netflix and Amazon's one size fits all global approach the vast majority of the BBC's content is made for British audiences. That's it's distinction. Have you seen Netflix's god awful attempt at a panel show?

What are the most popular linear TV shows/channels with 15-24 year olds today??

There used to be very obvious channels and shows aimed at this age group but now (speaking as a 32 year old) these seem to have disappeared.

Network 2/T4/Trouble/BBC Three etc.

It's that short sighted issue which has got them in the situation they're in now. It's not about how many are watching, it's about who are watching, and switching 9-12am on a Saturday morning is an easy move they can make ot bring in a younger audience. Give Saturday Mash Up (or it's equivalent) the budget it got from CBBC plus the Saturday Kitchen budget and I'm sure it could begin to do the job it needs to do.

Indeed restoring a Saturday morning show to BBC1 was one of the major recommendations a couple of years back when a similar report came out, a recommendation completely ignored other than a token effort hidden away on the CBBC channel.

I imagine nobody wants to deal with angry parents to justify axing CBeebies

Quite - anyone who’s been anywhere near small children will understand the value of CBeebies, especially its last half hour each day.

For the rest of the time it’s a wonderful resource for parents / carers that is available just about everywhere. They can put it on and know there is safe, commercial free - and often educational - content that engages the target age group. It’s a brilliant example of PSB.

Here is the top 10 most watched shows from 2018 for the younger demographics from that Ofcom report. World Cup has been stripped out as they took a lot of the slots.

You can see why X Factor still gets recommissioned and how valuable I'm A Celeb is to ITV. Likewise The Apprentice for BBC.

What might be more revealing but is probably not available is the programmes with the highest proportion of viewers in the demo.

Interesting how Doctor Who slips down the Top 10 with it going completely from 25-34.

Most of that age group is the generation that didn't grow up on DW, remember. A 34 year old would be born in 1985, so would've been 4 when it went off air and 20 when it returned. A 25 year old, born in 1994, would've not seen the show until they were 11.
