Odd things they fix on telly programmes

Why did they do that? (September 2011)

Just watching Mitchell & Webb on BBC HD, specifically this sketch:

It's not as obvious on YouTube, but it looks like they've gone to great pains to post-paint in the "BBC" on the microphone that Mitchell's holding. I've no idea why they had to do that - all I can think is that it was to replace an "ITV" or somesuch.

At the risk of being mistaken for TumbleTower, it reminded me of another sketch I saw recently on I'm Sorry I've Got No Head (CBBC) which had Marcus Brigstocke dressed up as a fancy-dress robot - they painted in a more opaque headpiece, perhaps because the original might looked have too much like a plastic bag on his head.

What other seemingly pointless uses of CGI (if I can stretch to calling it that) have been spotted? I know of someone who once had to Photoshop some trousers on a gawker mooning in the background of a vox pop to keep the shot broadcastable.

Appears fine to me, the mic gets rotated at least twice on the audience shot. I don't think it's post-painted, it's not particularly difficult to make in the first place.
It's quite clearly set in the 1930s and about as unrealistic as it could probably get. You are probably reading too much into it and missed the point.

This is a clip from a Dutch DIY programme, and I think it's pretty clear what they were trying to achieve (albeit because it didn't quite materialise like it should.) Makes you wonder what else they fix in supposedly 'factual' programmes though.

That might be it though - the prop may have been missing in the close ups so they did it for continuity. It's much clearer in HD - it doesn't seem to flicker with the rest of the picture and a quick animated gif I made shows that it doesn't seem to rotate nearly enough with the mic:

Wow, brilliant example - thanks for that one.
