Channel 4 have Friends for evening half-hour fillers, as well as repeats of their lifestyle programmes. If the cricket's finished early they have a number of Countdown specials to go in the usual Countdown slot. They have T4 and 4music slots for short fillers.
I've not seen ITV have to fill with anything in a long time, but I'd imagine they'd use things like You've Been Framed and The Planet's Funniest Animals for 30 minute fillers, and Creature Comforts for shorter breaks.
Plain black LNN-6 countdown clock for about 40 secs on Meridian just now. London managed to play out the trail with no problems. Did anyone in Pres notice? When you're feeding out a million and one variants, I guess not.

As it was unmarked, I was trying to guess what it could be counting down to, but was sorely disappointed when it turned out to be an ITV2 trail. Wow, I thought.

On Granada before the News we just had a still ITV1 caption for about 40 seconds, no LNN clocks for us, then a normal ident going into the News.
Channel 4 having some nice playout problems during Big Brother's Little Brother.
Going into the commercials, the sponsorship failed to play. Coming back from the commercials there was a long period of black before we rejoined BBLB, but stretched to 16:9.
Then midway through an interview, Dermot O'Leary was interrupted by a talking Kinder Bueno. But at least he apologised (Dermot, not the Bueno).
The anno apologised over the BB News slide (16:9 on analogue) and then went into the list of numbers trail but got cut off again for black screen and eventual ads and then apologised again over the ident.
Dermot stressed the channel was to blame, not the local team at BBLB!
Well it happened...broke down again during Hollyoaks. Black screen, moment of colour bars then silent loop of the Trees ident, hesitant anno talking about what's coming up, more apologies and re-joined Hollyoaks after missing part of the programme. One final apology just before the news.
