Have just been watching Star Trek First Contact on Channel Four, and i'm sure there is a line just as James Cromwell notices the Enterprise as they flying in the warp ship and he says "Good god!!" or words to that effect, which i'm sure is missing from the version i've just watched.

I know you can't say words like Goddamnit on US TV, but is there such a ruling in the UK?

I've just checked the DVD and he actually says "Sweet Jesus!" which I suppose is a mildly more blasphemous phrase. A bit PC-gone-mad, though.

never really under stood how saying sweet Jesus can be blasphemous as it's complementary to call somebody sweet.

they'll be cutting out all the 'holy-' phrases out of Robin's dialogue in classic Batman episodes next Rolling Eyes

Confused:

sorry, not really sure what you are trying to say there. I'm just querying how a complementary expression can be perceived as blasphemous when referring to Jesus.

Jesus is not god, so saying his name, means you can;t be using the lords name in vein!

It was different to the one the BBC broadcasted - extended scenes?

It did say on the EPG guide that it was edited for language or something like that.

Why would saying Jesus be wrong when it is actually a very common name in the MIddle East!!!!!!!!!!!

It did have the words bullsh*t and so on cut out. However it for some reason didn't cut out a scene where you see a drill piercing into Patrick Stewarts eyes which almost every other pre-watershed copy cuts. Bizarre!

And I don't get people saying that it's blaspheming if you say "good god!" Surely it's a good thing because you're acknowledging god exists Wink

right, now I understand you. In Christian teaching Jesus was God made man but I can see where you are coming from.

Where on earth are you coming from........

With religious teaching in all Christian religions Jesus is the SON of God.

I though being 'the son of God' and 'God made man' were the same thing. anyway, I'm no theologists and this is taking us off topic so I'll shut up . Embarassed
