Patrick Allen is indeed a sad loss. Inimitable voice - and working up to the very end I gather . Inspired choice for E4 -not many stations would choose a 79 year old - albeit a voice- over legend - to be the voice of their station in these days of whining estuary yoof.
For those who have never heard his work before E4 -he featured on Two Tribes by Frankie goes to Hollywood ''When you hear the air attack warning ......and Mine is the last voice you will ever hear' ...which was a parody of his Protect and Survive govt information films from the 70s ...( what to do if they drop the bomb ..etc etc )
Can't imagine E4 without him now ....

Err...
It was unfortunate timing for you to start the other thread when you did, but surely the best thing to do would be to say nothing, rather than to back-peddle in such an *obvious* way.
At least, that's what I think.

I can't stand one of E4's announcers - you know the one - the man who has a real posh sounding English Accent - it's awful and on near enough all E4 adverts including Big Brother Diary Room advert and the newly recent one for Hollyoaks in the city. Who else has noticed this?

Here's a radical idea. Posts in obituary threads ought not to be allowed unless they're over one hundred words long.
I think this is only the second or third obituary thread I've contributed to in all my time here, and I'm not even commenting specifically on Patrick on this occasion.
The short, sharp "Will be sadly missed" lines are rarely meant seriously and are usually a simple case of "herd following", rather than any reflection of deeply held thoughts.
If you do have deeply held thoughts about someone who has passed on, then you'll be able to develope them into a proper post of reasonable length, rather than a one-liner.
Leave the one-liners for the gravestone and don't contribute unless you really mean it.

I hope I mean this :-s.
I really liked his trailers. His selection was innovative, like the corporation that he worked for. His trailers are ones that actually make you look up. Also the coloquial remarks, the posh voice—perfect! His trailers are actually the ones that can make you actually recieve the humour, and light-heartedness. He could make the most serious of dramas, sound like a light-hearted event. WAs it him who did the 'Catagory 6.: Day of Destruction' trails? "Watch actors getting the sh—— knocked out of them!"! I really do mean this, E4 have a void to fill!
ARe there any of his trails running at the moment?
Rest In Peace.

Chris Moyles obviously isn't aware of his death. On his show this morning her was saying how much he's looking forward to hearing Partick announcing "Tomorrow...Chris Moyles!!" on "The Paul O'Grady Show" - which he's scheduled to appear on in October.
Moyles does a very good impression. Far better then E4's own imitator.

Knowing what an anorak Chris Moyles is, you'd have thought he'd know that it is, and always has been Peter Dickson doing the V/Os for Paul O'Grady.
