No more Montel, no more Donny & Marie, sob it's another sad day for British Broadcasting. Yes, I refer to of course the demise of Granada Breeze which ceased transmission on ITVD last night.
Men & Motors however goes from strength to strength and will continue to broadcast. Oh, and it appears as a result of the demise of Breeze, we have extended ITN on ITVD, yippee I can watch Leyla Daybelge now. Well I'm happy.
EDIT: Correction, ITN's extended hours are down to ITV Select 4 reducing it's hours, not the closure of Breeze.

For some strange reason, Granada have pulled Breeze from Sky Digital and ITV Digital, but it continues on a number of cable systems, including NTL.
A rather odd decision to pull from ITV Digital, I thought. Why would a major shareholder in the system pull one of its own channels and leave the system weaker as a result, especially as the channel will continue elsewhere, so the production costs aren't being saved?
More logical thinking from GMG I suppose!

Is it still 'Actually' broadcasting, though or is it just tapes being played at out cable head-ends?
I too cannot understand why Breeze is no longer on ITVD and SkyD, seeing Granada is a stakeholder in ITVD and Sky were part of the Granada Sky Broadcasting partnership.
Not sure whether it's tape playout of old stuff or not, Simon.
In any case, they could have left a taped service on ITV Digital, as they have on cable. It DEFINITELY wouldn't be the only channel entirely devoted to endless repeats, would it?

granada breeze is still on telewest digital
for some reason they've pulled it off ITVdigital and sky.
i'm surprised they took it off sky though.
I say goodridence personally - hopefully it will be replaced by a more original, interesting channel... LivingTV might be an ideal replacement.

The only show I liked was ABC's The View. But Breeze took that off ages ago.

Not QUITE an obituary for the channel though.

They still have contracts with the cable companies that have to be honoured for another few weeks. besides it is owned by Granada Sky Broadcasting, not Granada... or GMG (GMG is the Guardian Media Group!)
Ah, thanks for that, Larry. It makes a bit more sense now. Total demise March 31st then, at a GUESS.
Isn't Granada Sky Broadcasting part of the overall Granada Group though?
I'll give up on just using the letters , I think. I agree, I've always thought of GMG as the Guardian's abbreviation. Perhaps we should just refer to Granada as GM Group, after all, they seem to be genetically modifying television!
