Appears that NTL have been busy renumbering their channels. Most have changed and they're now more grouped. I wonder if Telewest will be adopting the new numbering.

Only 1 area of the NTL Cable group has changed, the other Area is at the end of the month.

Im with NTL and I wondered why they changed their numbers. Apart from channels 1-5 the only other channels with the same number as before appear to be E4 and E4+1

This is the Telewest numbering they're adopting. TW will probably only have to change a few numbers.

why can't SKy and telewest, NTL, all have the same channel number
( you could problay even get half the Freeview channel that way! )

Its would be too easy for us as users if we were to have all the channel numbers the same!

Guess it also has something to do with that Sky believe that Sky One should be on channel 106 whereas Telewest and NTL believe their channels should have better positions on their platform.

Love the fact that on Sky, Sky News is channel 501 and on Telewest it is on channel 602. It's like Telewest did that just to pi*s Sky off!

It's about time too IMO, the whole NTL channel ordering thing has been in a mess for years, and for a leading Digital Cable Television service, it looks far inferior to Telewest, Sky and Freeview.

Problem being that when Cable & Wireless Digital launched, they were rather short sighted with their channel number ordering, then NTL bought them up and did very little, so we got oddities such as Sky One on Ch 30, Sky Two on Ch 930, Paramount 1 on Ch 105, Paramount 2 Ch 936 etc, I could go on all night.

Only since they've merged with Telewest and the Virgin brand due to appear anytime within the next few months, they've finally pulled their finger out of their nose and sorted this embarassment out. They just need to sort out this and Customer Service, and potentially they have a good service, which was intended to do more than Sky, just they never did. It has potential, one Cable bringing Television channels, Television and Movies on Demand, High Speed Internet and a Telephone service does have the potential, it's just unfortunate it's taken them this long.

Though our house is just weird in terms of Cable, our brown box located outside the house states Nynex, we have two STB's, one being Cable & Wireless, the other NTL (both the good ol' Pace 1000 series), a broadband modem with NTL, and a service soon to be called Virgin, I've never known so many name changes. I completely forgot the name NYnex - I was just thinking the other day what it was called before Cable & Wireless. ALso, if I remember correctly, weren't NYnex the original sponsors of the Manchester Arena????

Yes they were, I forgot the MEN used to be called The Nynex Arena, at the time I always got it confused with the G-Mex. Embarassed

And for those who don't know it stands for N ew Y ork N ew E ngland e X change, we got Nynex installed in August 97, then the month after it became Cable & Wireless, as it merged with 4 other companies, one being Mercury Communications.
