Currently (20.26 local time) getting a flypast from a pair of F16s.

Watching today, I really get a sense of occaision with the way the locals are interacting with the ship. Amazing since the only actual thing of note is that it's a really long live tv broadcast.

Yep - but how often does a live TV show go through these places - and it's being carried on their equivalent (though not quite) of BBC Two. (NRK 2 has only been running a relatively short time and really only started with digital TV quite recently I think.)

I think they're doing a great job of celebrating Norway, celebrating Hurtigruten, and the fact that people like us are talking about it is doing great things for their image abroad.

I was in Oslo in February and had a great time. Lovely country - and the people I've met from NRK are both very good and very nice - which is a rare combination in TV.

Have to admit the female interviewer at Honningsvåg this morning does look as if she's been on board for a number of days, looks a bit shattered.

... and the weather has turned foul, blowing a gale from the North, Rain lashing the windows, very very unpleasant. Shows me what conditions my Late Mother's first husband faced in WW2 escorting the convoys before he became a casualty on 17th January 1942 in these very waters when the vessel he was serving abord was torpedoed.

Apparently the bow camera has been broken by the rough seas:

Quote:
Sea off Nordkyn was too much for our bow camera. It hangs on the bow, but the signal is lost. #hurtigruten

Shame, I liked that shot.

Edit: And in a crawler on the feed: "To those who miss bow our camera, it has been beaten and we can not get out on deck to check"

Running around an hour late now ... seemingly another victim of the heavy Barents Sea ... 50mph headwinds at times today.

Pleased to read that the whole thing will remain online for the foreseeable future. Will be nice to take chunks out and watch later, without bufferring.

The stern camera feed is available in 1920x1080 for download by bit torrent as well. People are already doing stuff with this - there's a nice timelapse/sped up version.

The http://nrk.no/beta team have some nice articles up - including some behind the scenes YouTube clips showing the gallery. (Proper Sony vision mixer, EVS server, camera racks area, remote controls for the Cineflex gyrostabilised camera etc.)

Great idea to have it finishing on the Summer Solstice. I guess that was one of the reasons for doing it!

Into the final hour, and the NordNorge Captain is receiving a call from Jens Stoltenberg the Norwegian PM.
