After two live train trips and the epic Hurtigruten voyage NRK once again come out with something unique

12 hours of looking at a burning fire ....

Norwegian public television plans to broadcast a burning fireplace for 12 straight hours from Friday evening, with firewood specialists providing colour commentary, expert advice and a bit of cultural tutoring.

"We'll talk about the very nerdy subjects like burning, slicing and stacking the wood, but we'll also have cultural segments with music and poems," Rune Moeklebust, a producer for state broadcaster NRK.

A fire can smoulder. Not only that, but the use of "burning" insinuates that the fire mentioned is not a still image, but the result of active combustion.

I think I'd prefer to watch this than an average evening schedule on ITV

This isn't quite as original as it may sound. Many U.S. stations broadcast footage of a burning fireplace for several hours on Christmas -- albeit not live and with music instead of commentary:

Well, It's better than Songs of praise.

It doesn't fill a religious quota though, unless there is some sort of fire worship in Norway that we don't know about.

Or they were burning science textbooks.

..... and there were complaints, prior to burning the wood was stacked incorrectly, or perhaps not ....

super rtl from germany already did this for closedown instead of test card not sure was for 12 hours though
