Try watching BBC 2 NI's intro to The Flight of the Phoenix just after 3:15pm Wink

Wonderful stuff. I've now got all 3 in DVD format!

And nice touch with the next slide - why oh why does Network not bother with what they have available! I always wonder just how much material was created but never used for the old BBC One balloon era...

Cheers, Asa

Not much, we used the moving balloon backgrounds in NI, but I don't think anyone else did. That was about all the "extra" bits there were (that I'm aware of).

Would Mr Asa care to share this junction with the forum? I was nursing a sore head in bed at the time!!

So the BBC TWO logo and URL isn't burnt onto the ident?

Around the time of the 50th anniversary of CEEFAX, in the closing junction at 1.50am the announcer talked to the end "so we'll leave you with a selection of pages and music" [ident ends, logo stays] "...and... goodnight" [fade].

Looked really good actually.

(and if you're wondering why I know/remember that, it was on a tape after the golf which my granny tapes Laughing ).

The 50th? That must be a quick two decades as they only reached their 30th at the end of September just gone! Laughing

Another few gems from the 1980s kicked off last night's Ceefax broadcast. Sadly due to incompetence on my part I only managed to record the last piece...which clearly came off vinyl. We were then back into that bland tripe that they usually play these days.

Would be nice if they played out again tonight at 2am...particularly 'Bart' and 'From a Sidewalk Cafe'. Very Happy

Yep, the closing announcement last night was telling us about goodies on the other networks then our female continuity announcer finished off by saying "as for me, I need my bed, goodnight"
We then had a few classic trade test tracks from the olden days before the chillout stuff took over. "Bart" from Ruby. "Star Wars" from James Last Orchestra, and "From A Sidewalk Cafe", from Frank Mills.

Any reason for these treats? Not that I'm complaining of course

The reason is simply because there is no Learning Zone filling the gap till the end of this week. So whilst News 24 goes out on BBC-1 BBC-2 is left to put out Ceefax Pages to fill the gap from 2-6am.
Luckily there are a few people in presentation at the Beeb led by Continuity's Dean Lydiate that want to put out some musical oldies as well as the usual stuff.
