Probably is burnt - but when they shove the overlays on top, there's no need to make it pretty round the edges.
Sort of, they make up a master tape of all the idents and then make versioned copies from that (England, Scotland, Wales etc) for transmision.
Because the logo stays on screen for the whole ident (with a couple of exceptions) they super-impose the logo onto the whole tape. There's no point in going to the bother of taking it off screen inbetween - no-one will normally see the slate.

So the BBC TWO logo and URL isn't burnt onto the ident?

Great closedown last night - even with the dodgy sound levels! Has anyone else seen the non cutdown version of Snow this Christmas though? Every junction I've seen it, it's started with the 2 already next to the snow.
Nice opening anno wishing us a Happy New Year too this morning - I think the youngsters will have been a bit confused though as the CBeebies presenters said it was still December!

ooh and a rather nice opening anno too ..
BBC 2 OPEN 31/12/04
I thought it was Deadly Alancoat at first..... (those who don't know, that's Alan Deadicoat).
It's def Dean .. and it's Alan Dedicoat (voice of the balls). Interesting anorak fact - both Dean and Alan worked at Radio Devon. Although Alan has never been a BBC One announcer (unless you count the pre-recorded intro's he did for various regional news programmes), although it the 80's and 90's he was regular promo voice on BBC One - in the days when they sometimes did the promo's live.

Very nice announcement, but what's "Direct Television."
Quote:
early transmissions were famously introduced by one of the very first presenters, Elizabeth Cowell with the words “This is direct television from Alexandra Palace”.

If anyone has a full, 16:9 version of the closedown could they please contact me, as I missed the beginning. Many thanks.

Wonderful stuff. I've now got all 3 in DVD format!
And nice touch with the next slide - why oh why does Network not bother with what they have available! I always wonder just how much material was created but never used for the old BBC One balloon era...
Cheers, Asa
