Just a quick question for interest, Divis is the main tv transmitter in Northern Ireland are Limavady and Brogher really just relays of Divis? another Q, can any1 provide the routes which the NI relays take their feeds.

From an analogue perspective...my understanding...

Divis, Limavady and Brougher Mountain are Northern Ireland's three main transmitter sites - each with their own set of relay stations.

However, Limavady and Brougher Mountain receive their local TV feeds from the Divis site in Belfast. It is possible to shut down the various transmitter elements at Divis for maintenance without impacting Limavady and Brougher Mountain output.

However, if for example there was a loss of power supply to the technical facilities at the Divis site, then Limavady and Brougher Mountain services would be impacted. Limavady and Brougher Mountain would switch to rebroadcasting BBC One Scotland and BBC Two Scotland; ITV 1 and Channel 4 would revert to a blue apology caption generated at the Limavady and Brougher Mountain sites.

As I've said, Divis is the site from which the local TV feeds are distributed to the rest of the province. If Divis lost its feed from BBC Broadcasting House in Belfast, BBC One Scotland and BBC Two Scotland would be fed to all transmitter sites in N. Ireland. If the UTV or Channel 4 feeds to Divis were lost, I believe a blue apology caption generated at Divis would be transmitted across N. Ireland.

Channel 5 is a different set-up and I'm not sure how it works.

Are Limavady and Brougher Mountain not traditional RBL relays and fed by microwave which is routed via Divis in that case? I can't see how shutting down Divis UHF transmissions for maintenance could not have an effect on those two stations if they were RBS.

Brougher Mountain's analogue and DTT transmissions are on adjacent channels to Divis's, so off air RBL from Divis would be difficult (but not impossible)

However photos show 'Trough' UHF receiving aerials at BM, which seem to be directed at Divis
