I wouldn't hold your breath for any ITV regional shows to move to widescreen...
I understand that LNN who make London Tonight for Carlton/LWT have recently re-equipped with 16:9 switchable location and studio cameras, a new studio gallery, and digital editing.
However I believe they have been told they must remain 4:3 until (if this ever happens!) ITN move to widescreen production for ITV News. (Wonder if this is part of the new contract?) Other regions are also similarly equipped...
I suppose that now the 1230 news has integrated regional news, as will the News at Ten (strong rumour), it is more difficult to be in a different ratio to ITN, but it is a pity.

as for Tyne Tees' new studio, I have to say it looks quite nice (if a little Dr Who). They have kept the blue background but suplemented it with frosted strips of glass and a metalic effect strips. The new desk is quite nice as well. Theres one normal plazma screen and another turned on it side beside Mike Neville. Its a vast improvement on the sparce old one.
