Apparently, the BBC is determined to bring back Noel's House Party for a one-off special, and potentially a new series. I find it a bit hard to believe, but hell, it'd be great for Saturday nights.

Loved it then (well, up until the last couple of series), but wouldn't want to see it come back now.

Well if Noel's not available I reckon they'll try Graham's House Party which will in turn kill the memory of the original format.

It's been nearly 10 years since it finished. As much as I would like it to return, I think it's best left in the 1990s.

NHP always struck me as having quite an elaborate set. On the assumption that the original sets have been skipped, there would seem to be quite an expense in making a new set for a one off show.

I think most of the set was made from cardboard given that the whole place used to shake when Noel slammed the door. Laughing

Still I would imagine some parts are quite expensive. Like the stone staircase, gunge tanks, the dodgem style gunge track, adapted audience seating where one audience member would sink below and get gunged.

Plus you got live OB's with NTV, Number Cruncher plus the bookings of many Z-list celebs.

So I would imagine it's a very expensive show... but just what BBC1 needs to bring back decent Saturday nights which it hasn't seen for quite a while.

The OBs should cost less than they used to in the early days of NHP - back then it would have been terrestrial links, quite possibly with mid-points. Satellite should mean that significantly fewer staff are required for the links.

Are people forgetting that they did move away from the set we seem to remember towards the end of its run. The set in the last series was a lot smaller.

Just found this on Youtube, the final few minutes of NHP which includes how small the set has become... clicky

Possibly. Although when Noel returned to the BBC to do that lottery show a few years back, They tried to recreate NTV with disastorous effect. Basically Digital TV fell fowl to the feed and the digital delay meant it was very difficult for a conversation to build between Noel and the viewer, so it wasn't as sucessful as they might had hoped.

And I don't imagine there would be a way around this? So NTV may not come back.

Wow the set really was a hell of a lot smaller looking at that final clip.

What make me believe this is untrue is the fact that if it comes back Mr Blobby will be involved. I remember watching the 'Who Killed Saturday Nights...' documentary, and Noel Edmonds said he detested Mr Blobby, so i doubt he'd come back, especially as he's doing so well in other projects.

True - I thought that was because the punter was watching on DSat rather than being down to the OB link.

It was Blobby that ruined the show for me. The show would go from something quite intense to that big pink blob bouncing about like Eamonn Holmes.
