But in the 50 minutes you had a fast moving, frantic, entertaining programme that may not have worked well over a longer time slot.

Would Noel be interested in a one off? Would the BBC?

There needs to be the next wave of programmes to takeover from celebrity/talent shows again on Saturday nights.
With many people streaming dramas, films and recorded series surely the one advantage that linear TV has is the power of live TV. Something that Noel made a lot of use of back in the day.

Seems the perfect opportunity to share this spectacular image:

From memory that photo was from the end of one of the series, based on that raised circle. I seem to recall it involved an appearance by Roger Moore playing an evil character and there being lots of 'explosions' at the end. I think out of shot was the another part of the set on the left.

What was the circle for - did the big Pork Pie raised from the floor they year they did that?

Watched it earlier in the week and it seemed so calm compared to what it became, but the basics were there. Surprised though they carried over the Lyric Game from the roadshow as that was nowhere near as fun as it should have been. Think it got replaces soon after.

Was the Lyric Game set actually in the same studio or was that a bit of TV trickery. From what I recall that part of the set housed the various games in early years until in series 4 they got rid of it and opened up the other side to introduce the other wing of the house, the back door and the trip around the great house.

Then in later series they ruined the set completely as well as the show, ditching the iconic theme tune for House of Fun IIRC.

Does anyone know where Wait Til I get you home was staged? Was it behind the main set or in a different studio?

I seem to remember they were prerecorded elsewhere. It would certainly make sense to do it that way.

That circle was for this I believe?

In the set image I think you can make out the lid which would cover the hole.

Wait till I'll.get you home was recorded, Maybe early in the day? Mind you it started on.the road show series one did it not?

I just wonder why in mainland Europe there have tv shows which can last 2 hours yet transfer them here and it's cut in two.

I've certainly got dim recollections of the "Wait Til I Get You Home" stuff being a pre-rec too.

All this NHP stuff is making me feel slightly queasy though - I was never that much of a fan, mainly because I wasn't a huge Noel fan. Elements of the format were very clever and often ambitiously well done - NTV, Gotchas etc. - but at it's core I just felt it was a bit too smug and 'in' at times.

Ant'n'Dec have taken a lot of similar themes, but I find their likability makes Takeaway a much more comfortable watch.

Yep, they used that circle as a qualifier for Cash for Questions, which replaced Grab a Grand from Series 6 onwards.

Talking of Edmonds, a few years ago I went to a recording of Deal or No Deal. During one of the commercial breaks Edmonds was signing some memorabilia for pilgrims a member of the audience who seemed a bit rough around the edges but harmless made a remark along the lines of "you've moved around a bit first you had a a swap shop then you had a house party now a factory" Edmonds seemed to take offence at this seemingly harmless comment and said something like "I'm watching you" in quite an assertive manner it was hard to know whether he was joking around with the audience member or being serious.

I do like Ant N dec but I like them more on BGT and Im Celeb. But Takeway just feels crap, and boring and not fast enough, with lot of padding. Some of the bits are good, and few others were nicked from House party but there is something missing from Takeaway which House had. I do remember watching it all the time but I cant remember most of what was on, I do remember there was a cheap soap.

One would say both, Noel must know this guy was a fan hence wanting his John hancock. I think noel has learned over the years to lighten up a bit.

I agree about Takeaway. The days where there were surprises with 'What's Next?' and the vs challenges added to the fun of the show. Looking back at slap bang, because of the totally different segments it seemed quite quick moving.

Back to House Party things were definitely speedier by the 100th:

House Party had things between the featurestoo, usually somebody at the door. Helps it feel much pacier.
