I think the show should be given another chance, maybe six episodes. Saturday night TV is dire, you never know, it could take-off.

Think we'd identified Noels user name on here.

..........

Sending you positive thoughts.

No seriously if I were him, I would be on to the site admins requesting special treatment.

It's also worth noting that the (relatively small in the scheme of things) cost of whatever prizes were won in those months do not have to be paid out until the episodes are broadcast.

Forgive my ignorance, but are you saying that a hypothetical winner of £250k on those unbroadcast episodes is still waiting to receive their money? Or that Endemol paid out to the winner but Channel 4 are holding back on paying Endemol?

As with most gameshows, winners do not get paid until the programme is broadcast. They don't take the cheque home with them on the day, it's posted to them after transmission.

If somebody did win the £250,000 or even the penny on the non-broadcast eps then they haven't got it yet.

Interestingly, while cancer is covered under the Cancer Act, there's nothing to stop alternative medicine suppliers peddling stuff to people with chronic illnesses such as my wife.

Please don't take this the wrong way - I have every sympathy - but that did come out sounding a bit like a Les Dawson joke!

I don't know if Channel 4 or Endemol pay the prizes, but yes that is hypothetically correct.

It's been common since the late 90s - it's useful for a number of reasons, mostly to do with keeping the contestants on side after they've left the studio but before broadcast. It was famously invoked to prevent payment to Charles Ingram (although a cheque had been written and stopped in that case I believe, the lead time on Millionaire being much shorter generally).

The cynic in me wonders whether contestants are reminded of the clause on some modern game shows where they are clearly told how to behave - The Colour of Money and The Exit List are two examples that spring to mind.

I also wonder if the prize winners of The Colour of Money and Shafted (both of which were high-prize shows) are the reason the remaining unbroadcast episodes were never 'burned off' as you might expect them to be. Obviously the unpaid winners wouldn't report it because it wouldn't be in their interest to do so...

Well they were certainly shafted in that case.

Haha! Noel boasts about them "completely screwing up the computer, and have no idea how many people voted" in the gunge phone vote but well in the six figures. The call charge info was simply "Calls cost 10p max".

Not that important, I suppose as it's overwhelming result, and there's no viewer competition element, but still... 'those were the days'.
