Noel on Strike

And other Noel-related gubbins, by the looks of it (January 2018)

Of course, Tiswas in the late 70's, and everything was different back then.

Smoking was allowed on all public transport, so the drivers of the WMPTE buses in Birmingham wouldnt have batted an eyelid at some spotty early 20 somethings getting on the 9 to Stourbridge, soaking wet and some odd pastelike substance hanging off their forehead...from the stop next to the ATV centre.

Not just a different era - but very different type of show with a much smaller budget.

The other one I remember is Toothbrush. On one occasion they challenged members of the audience to deep fry their shoes (why?) and of course we all remember the game where you had to throw household items out of windows - were broken ironing boards, televisions, radios etc replaced I wonder after falling from a first floor window?

The thing with Number Cruncher is that, bar the very first one, everyone who went to it knew there was a possibility they would get gunged so it wasn't exactly against their will. I imagine there might have been some sort of waiver signed off screen.
They would also likely be very close to their home in order to have been the person who got there first/in time.

The most recent uploads show the perils of the more elaborate setups of the 'Trip around the House' gunging.

A stray football gets lodged between the car and the wall and get's it stuck. It takes Noel to instruct the team to revolve the car so that the brick can be dislodged and the car can roam free again. (From 27.30)

Just a few more episodes later and we encounter the same thing. Although this time it involves a few styrofoam bricks and they seem to go under the undercarriage therefore not quite as easy to dislodge. Indeed after a few attempts to dislodge the car by taking it back and forth, and even Noel trying again to fix the problem and getting very messy in the process, it's no use and it has to be abandoned. (From 8.14)

Just goes to show that no matter how much the team wanted to keep the pace up with the show, it only takes a piece of styrofoam to halt proceedings.

Yeah. As I said on the comments I vividly remember it getting stuck on the second show, you saw the pipes pumping out foam for ages before they finally gave up. It was interesting how long they stuck with it before giving up, Noel seemed to think he was going to sort it out himself. They must have lost about a minute on that thing stuck at the corner.

It's interesting looking at these full shows at how ambitious the Trip became. The first couple of shows, not a lot happens, with the final gunging being done roughly in the location of the original tank. By week 3 it's becoming more messy and the final gunging is in the fireplace. The year after and you had giant fans emerging over the top of the track for Grab a Grand, which I always thought was quite impressive.

Going back to the 18th Feb 1995 show, it does seem that they've been loaned a steadicam for a week and my god they're going to make the most of it. I think they finally used that regularly in the last series.

I've often wondered what the purpose of the rubbish seat belt was on the trip around the great house. They always seem to make sure it is put on which makes me wonder if it was either a) some early health and safety restriction or b) a device to ensure they stayed sat in the middle so they couldn't dodge any of the gunge, or stand up and get out. Or a combination of the two.

Its back on form this week: The simple fact is there went back to basic and just a good all round show.
