Some specials would have been recorded (they did one from New York for example). The recording date in Infax might be part of the programme, i.e. a guest that couldn't make it live or something to complicated to do live

The Noel's House Party edition from America (I don't think it was New York) was transmitted live. And what a total train wreck it was.

It was New York (Noel's New York House Party) - I remember Noel going on about it weeks beforehand. It was also broadcast in poor American NTSC quality.

NTSC isn't that bad. If it looks terrible on PAL or component it's usually because of a poor standards conversion.

The first one he did over there from the Ed Sullivan Theatre, that Letterman uses, was great, the second one from Disneyland (I think) was a total disaster! Shocked

What surprised me was that given a bomb threat in one of the studios, pres hadn't been evacuated and was still operating. Or had Brum taken over and played out the filler programme and the all clear had been given by the time Noel Edmonds appeared in the Broom Cupboard (NC1 Con)?

AIUI the bomb threat was a while before the programme, but even though it had been cleared by the time the programme was meant to go out the disruption was too much for it to go ahead (no last minute rehearsals/setting up, no audience etc).

Although I was quite young at the time I do remember captions being flashed up on the screen during NCP saying things like "We will be joining Noel and the guests in Crinkely Bottom in 15 minutes", and this went on throughout the whole programme until it became obvious it wasn't going to happen. Presuambly given how popular the show was they would have been happy to put it out a little later and knock the whole schedule back, but even that didn't happen in the end. I remember being baffled by the whole thing - I must have switched off before the broom cupboard link as I only heard about it years later on a forum like this! Very Happy

My memory may be playing tricks here, but weren't those captions in the same font NHP used for captions, suggesting they might have originated in the NHP gallery rather than pres?

Yeah they were, very good point!

It was Universal Studios. But yes it was a disaster. Even Noel has since said that was the beginning of the end and everything after that show was a mistake.

Have a look at this....
Noel does IVC

Noel's Christmas Presents was aired instead of House Party. Noel pops up in the Broom Cupboard for some IVC before announcing a Tom and Jerry Cartoon. Not bad for a cartoon to be on prime time Saturday night!

Haha! Be interesting to see what was on ITV that night hence the BBC thought 'sod it' and went with the Tom and Jerry option. It wasn't the Blind Date Wedding was it? Laughing

That repeat went out during Noel's House Party's all conquering second series run where it was getting huge ratings and beating EVERYTHING that ITV threw at it. So much so that the repeat of Noel's Christmas Presents actually beat Blind Date in the ratings. House Party's other famous during it's second series was The Darling Buds Of May on Boxing Day in 1992. Pop Larkin around 9.8 million to Noel's nearly 16 million on the night.

People forget how popular House Party was at it's peak.

And, if I'm right, that was the only edition of NCP to be repeated. It must have been embarrasing for ITV to see Cilla trounced by a repeat and a Tom & Jerry cartoon. Laughing

I take it you're not counting compilations then?

eg , the Gotcha compilations, including the one shown the week after Noel walked out1

What show was shown the week before(Walkout week!)?

A complete show repeat, or yet another compilation?

The week he walked out they repeated a best of compilation of the 1996/7 series, which had been shown the week before the start of that series. The Gotcha compilation the week after was in essence a standard episode of the show, as it was live, had a studio audience, guests etc - it was just built around introducing old clips, presumably to give the production team extra time to think about where to take the show after that!

Hasn't Noel since indicated that he didn't ever want to do the shows from America? I think I remember reading somewhere that he thought it was a total waste of the shows budget.
