While I have not seen Noah and Saskia, it concerns me that CBBC have pushed Grange Hill back to 4:30pm for an AUSTRALIAN series. According to CBBC Grange Hill was moved as N&S "was considered to have an older age range" but at the same time they insist Grange Hill isn't aiming at a younger audience.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but these statements contradict each other.

They do indeed, but if you've seen any of the recent series of Grange Hill since they've moved to Liverpool, it is as though they are aiming at a lower age group, it is nothing like the show was before the move.
Plus one fact I've never understood, is isn't the school still supposed to be the same, except re built? So why are all the new kids Liverpudlian?
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but it just doesn't make sense as to why a London based school is filled with Liverpudlians.

Exactly the same questions raised by Grange Hill fans, many of whom believe Mersey TV shouldn't have taken over the show. The school is "supposed" to be the same (many of the existing cast survived the transition but have since left) but it has suddenly moved from being a London school to one in an unspecified city. As schools do...
Over the last two years I've found much discrepancy between what Phil Redmond promised when Mersey TV took over and what ended up on screen. For one, we were promised characters with regional accents from across the country. You could say he's delivered - if you imagine a Britain stretching only from Leeds to Oldham!
And you are correct that Phil did want to aim at a younger audience. Lead characters Togger, Abel and Andy are clear rip-offs of Tucker, Benny and Alan and there's been more emphasis on the younger years. But Mersey TV has always insisted GH was a teenage show and it continues not to shy away from serious issues. The last series had matured somewhat in its approach with stories of racism, a parent with bipolar disorder and a girl wrongly labelled a lesbian because she left gifts for her form tutor - a cry for help as her mum never paid her much attention.
There could be as little as two pre-2002 characters in the new run. Yes there is a definate nod towards younger viewers in the new series, but you do wonder whether the time change (a slot shared with Tracy Beaker BTW) marks "the beginning of the end" for Grange Hill.
