If it's any consolation, all four concerts will be on iPlayer in full "tomorrow". But yes, agree with all the above. Not much fun for people who want to watch one of the other three either. About time they lost the permanent location astons for this kind of thing too, in my opinion.

(They had real problems with the audio on Radio 2 for a minute or so when the gospel choir were on, sounded like the link from the park was playing up - still up but lots of jitter.)

I think the location astons are there for the international viewer purposes... particularly when linking up to the parks for the Last Night finale from the Hall.

Well it would seem they did get rid of the location astons during the link ups to the parks from the Hall...

Now for Sailor's Hornpipe. Expect it to get quicker and quicker.

Really? Is that normal? Rolling Eyes

And, IIRC, Fantasia on Sea Songs always comes before LoH&G -- the reprise of LoH&G being the last song before the conductor's speech before Jerusalem.

This is the first time since 2007 that the full Fantasia On British Sea Songs including the Hornpipe has been performed at the Last Night. Good to see (or hear) it back!

They went straight from LoHaG into Jerusalem. No gap in between.

That seems an unusual way to do the National Anthem: quiet first verse, loud second verse ending in that much fanfare (last line sung 3 times).

Officially it's over now, but what's the betting Auld Lang Syne will get sung to finish off?

As I guessed, they had Auld Lang Syne at the end, like usually happens. Quite frankly, they'd might as well include that as the final item in the official programme.

If you bothered to buy one, you'd find it is included in the official programme...

Now get back in your hole you dull, odious individual.

Benjamin Britten's setting - it was used last year, as well IIRC. Fabulous setting, glad it's come to prominence this year (used at Paralympic Opening Ceremony, too) ready for Britten's centenary next year.

Quite conservatively produced this year, too. I see they've stopped trying to get the parks 'in synch' for an item, such as the Anna Meredith commission in 2008, or the Young Composer fanfares in 2009 - it never really worked, so just as well! Last year was directed in a similar style - lots of sweeping shots of the parks, but no audio at all, and nothing 'hosted' from the Parks themselves.

Did anybody else notice the man in the background of the camera whenever the guest was talking look straight into camera, during every single link! Rather amusing at times.

A great season of Proms, really tying into the special nature of this summer, IMO. Very Happy

I think the Proms have used that version for at least the last couple of years? I agree though- by far the best sounding version of our National Anthem there is!

Well the Proms Season is over for another year. At least this year's Last Night was closer to the way it should be. The full version of Fantasia on British Sea Songs was back, including Sailor's Hornpipe and a full Rule Britannia, and without bits of other national songs (Ar Hy Dy Nos, Skye Boat Song, Oh Danny Boy) thrown in. Altering it in the way they did in recent years spoilt that part of the concert a bit.

My gripe is the order:

Fantasia on British Sea Songs (ending in Rule Britannia)
Speech
Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory)
Then straight into Jerusalem (no gap in between)
National Anthem

And, IIRC, Fantasia on Sea Songs always comes before LoH&G -- the reprise of LoH&G being the last song before the conductor's speech before Jerusalem.

Well I remember Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory) was performed before Fantasia on British Sea Songs for several years. In fact, I remember the correct order being:

Pomp and Circumstance (Land of Hope and Glory)
Fantasia on British Sea Songs (ending in Rule Britannia)
Speech
Jerusalem
National Anthem

According to Wikipedia Auld Lang Syne is not in the programme.

No chance. Wikipedia is always right. It's reality which has accuracy issues.

Well here's the programme as per the BBC Proms website. The National Anthem (2 mins) is the final item on there. Auld Lang Syne isn't listed.

Excellent to hear Fantasia on British Sea Songs back on the programme in full.

In relation to Auld Lang Syne, The National Anthem is always the last work listed and Auld Lang Syne is by tradition sung by the audience impromptu without the Orchestra as they walk off.
