I had a reply from Nick Owen today about the e-mail I sent him yesterday about this digital regional thing. Here's what it had to say:

Hiya Katherine..

Lovely to get your email. Yes, good news about the digital
stuff..it means ex-pats from one region will be able to keep up to date with things wherever they are. I have been here four years now and love it.

I know the building, Pebble Mill, well because the Anne and Nick show came from here too and I used to be here on local radio in the seventies. I still miss the Anne and Nick days, though. Will never really understand why it was taken off. Nothing to do with ratings, I know that.

Life was pretty tough for a while till this job came along 18 months later. Incidentally, I thought Christa Ackroyd was on Calendar with my old mate Mike Morris?

Look after yourself..cheers Nick

Never thought I'd get a personal e-mail from him! I feel good!

Yes, if there is one thing that is good about Midlands Today, its got to be that if you email ANY presenters there, they will email you back with a nice reply.

Well, all you have to do is get SkyDigital now Katherine and wait for January, then you'll have the choice of you regional news programme. I can't wait, I bet you can't either, for a certain Northern programme broadcast from Leeds with a certain forecaster. Wink

I e-mailed Alex Trellinski, when he was at BBC Birmingham doing the local radio late night show.

This was around the time the Dad's Army episodes were found.

I asked him a few techy questions, & I got a reply as well!!

Jees Ry, for a telly buff you dont know much eh?

Nick was one half of Anne & Nick who carried Good Morning Britain for many many years. They kept it afloat, despite what people said about Roland Rat.

Later they repreived their double act for the BBC, and like Nick, I dont know why it was ever taken off either.

Nick Owen is great, a genuinely nice bloke. He should be on national TV a lot more often!

Bollocks.

Despite the similarity of the nature of the shows, they both picked up their own loyal audiences. The ITV audience could be separated into the demographic that finds Richard & Judy's Weekday Winner questions difficult. So, arseholes then.

BBC on the other hand had viewers like me.

If you mean Midday Money it wasn't around back then.

CONFESSION:

When I was about 15-16, I fancied Nick Owen like mad!

I am ecstatic that I'll be able to see Midlands Today!
