Well "Nick @ Nite" has now launched.
As expected, pretty much the same style of presentation as the regular Nickelodeon in new packaging and new graphics for pretty much everything. And new DOG as well, which rotates at the end of every part to send people to http://thescoop.nick.co.uk/ - there is no link to this I can see from the main Nick site so they're clearly wanting to keep the two strands totally separate.

I was always very curious as to the reasons why Nick at Nite never launched in the UK. I always thought Sky's The Comedy Channel the forerunner to the proposed Nick at Nite service. Don't forget The Paramount Channel didn't launch until November 1995. Does anyone know when the Nick at Nite proposals were quietly dropped as it still appeared on Sky's dealer promo reel into 1994? Matthew Horsman's "Sky High" may provide the answers. I'll have to dig out my copy.
Also, can anyone confirm what filled the overnight airtime on the Nickelodeon Astra transponder prior to The Paramount Channel's launch? I'm surprised it took so long to launch TPC but I have fond memories of Roseanne, Grace Under Fire et al.
Nick at Nite must be the longest awaited channel at 22 3/4 years!
The Disney Channel took 6 1/2 years to arrive and Sky Arts had a 15 year hiatus.
I'm still waiting for The Warner Brothers Channel to launch on Astra 1D. Will be 21 years this September!

Those of you who know their broadcasting history may recall that Nick at Nite was originally supposed to launch alongside Nickelodeon UK with the rest of the Sky Multichannels in 1993. However it was dropped before launch...
However, some 23 years after it was originally supposed to, Nick at Nite is finally launching in the UK on Nickelodeon.

Warner Bros Channel was probably the most interesting one, although we didn't have Sky at the time, the launch was well in place and they even had the schedules printed in listings magazines. That station really fell off the radar. WBTV did exist as an on demand service on Virgin Media (and I think BT and TalkTalk), but I think this service has since disappeared. Anyone clarify?

I think it was just standard (at that time) off air testcard and trailers, as the major channel shares didn't start in earnest until the mid 1990s (and you had that situation with I think it was channel 47 that was juggling six channels at various points throughout the day!)
This archive item suggests Nick at Nite UK was never meant to launch with Nickelodeon, but to follow afterwards, the article suggests it could have come around the time QVC and VH-1 joined.

QVC launched October 1st 1993 and VH-1 launched nine days later. As we know, Nick at Nite didn't happen.
Apparently it was slated for November 1996. Wiki, in the absence of any other reputable source, says it was a satellite channel that was planned to be run by Warner Bros. for British Sky Broadcasting. ... Warner bosses felt that the proposals for the network were "unrealistic".

When Nickelodeon launched, TV ASIA broadcast on the transponder after 7pm but vacated the space after a couple of months to make way for the proposed Nick at Nite. When that didn't happen "Pages from NickText" filled the space and VH1 Germany also appeared for a while, before Paramount launched.
I wouldn't say it was down to TVS, it was more down to the Family Channel owners who bought TVS and opted to keep programmes of interest to Nick at Nite UK for themselves which left a big hole in the plans.
So it was TVS's fault that Nick at Nite didn't launch?
