Those of you who know their broadcasting history may recall that Nick at Nite was originally supposed to launch alongside Nickelodeon UK with the rest of the Sky Multichannels in 1993. However it was dropped before launch. I can't find a source that explains why, and the only source for an article entitled 'Nick at Nite for UK now in doubt' leads to a dead link. One of the reasons I remember reading somewhere was because a broadcasting split between children's shows and more adult shows was not allowed in UK/Europe on what were primarily children's channels. This assumedly is also why Adult Swim has never launched on Cartoon Network over here, instead appearing on various other channels, currently broadcasting on Fox in the UK.

However, some 23 years after it was originally supposed to, Nick at Nite is finally launching in the UK on Nickelodeon. This follows Viacom's purchase of Channel 5 and the sharing of programmes between its various channels, which includes a Neighbours showing on Nick.

The current line up for launch night is:

7:00pm - NEW See Dad Run
7:30pm - Instant Mom
8:00pm - Neighbours
8:30pm - See Dad Run
9:00pm - Monday to Thursday: Make it Pop; Friday: Hollywood Heights
9:30pm - Every Witch Way
10:00pm - Victorious
10:30pm - The Thundermans
11:00pm - The Thundermans
11:30pm - Bella and the Bulldogs

Whereas Nick at Nite in the US was set up as the "first oldies TV network" (originally repeating classic shows from the 50s-60s, now showing classic shows from 80s and onwards) it looks as though the UK version will be a mixture of original programming from Nick at Nite US (See Dad Run, Instant Mom) and just Nickelodeon itself, plus a repeat of Neighbours (nothing new as Nick UK has been showing Neighbours for the past few months)

It'll be interesting to see if the strand evolves and they purchase more archive programming to be more like the original Nick at Nite.

Nothing wrong with raiding the archives but I'd have hoped they'd go a *little* further back than Victorious!!

Incidentally, 'The Vault' show the stuff I associate with Nickelodeon at its prime - Saved by the Bell, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sister Sister.

Nothing new in that schedule, all that stuff is currently on Nickelodeon anyway. Nick UK has already mixed and matched regular Nick and US Nick@Nite programming for ages.

Whether it'll become more like old-school Nick@Nite remains to be seen.

I'm not sure if that posted schedule is correct now though, as one of the shows part of the line up that is definitely making its premiere on Nickelodeon is the sitcom 'The Middle', which currently airs on Comedy Central, and the Virgin EPG says it's on launch night at 9pm.

I'd much rather see them bring The Splat over here and show some of their classic 90s stuff again.

Well they're doing that now with MTV 90s, I wonder if that's testing the waters for a proper launch.

A 'takeover channel' currently broadcasting on MTV Classic (Sky 356) for the months of May and June.

Schedule: http://www.mtv.co.uk/mtv-classic

They're showing 90s music videos and some 90s MTV/Nick shows like Daria, Kenan and Kel and Clarrisa Explains It All.

Ohh. They still don't have MTV Classic on VM so I was unaware.

VM used to but they dropped it in 2010 (along with MTV +1 and MTV Shows) so they could carry Comedy Central HD. I'm surprised it hasn't come back yet to be honest, because when MTV Shows was replaced with MTV Music, it came back to Virgin.
